What is the saddest episode on a TV show that you've seen?

Henry's death on MASH
When Archie Bunker talks to Edith and hugs her slipper after she's died
Dr Greens Death on ER

Brian's Song (1971 version) with James Caan and Billy Dee Williams.

BJ's death/BJ's heart on General Hospital.

I had forgotten about Edith dying on Archie Bunker -- devastating, even though Archie wasn't always very easy to love, that was so very sad.

I thought the episode of Kung Fu The Legend Continues where Robert Lansing left the show was terribly sad. On the show, they had him just leaving to find himself. In reality, he was leaving because he was dying. About two weeks after the show aired, Robert Lansing died of cancer. Chris Potter, who played Robert Lansing's step-son on the show was sobbing during the scene. I'm sure it was very emotional for everyone on the set.

Most of you are probably to young to remember this, but I cried so hard when Jeff had to leave Lassie behind when his family moved to Australia. In reality, they were introducing a younger character, Timmy, to be with Lassie.

For me it was when Archie finds Edith's slipper and starts crying (All in the Family). It was so sad to see this ill tempered, obnoxious man cry. I was 14 at the time and remember being very upset (my father had died two years beefore, maybe that is why). I still think of this episode and get very sad.

Well, I'll be! I always wondered how they switched boys!

SO glad you rember that episode too! I was so sad seeing him cry, he was so tough and awful to her. I grew up watching that show, I can't believe my mother let us.

I can't imagine anyone would remember this episode but I was pregnant and very emotional...my husband left to pick up dinner for us and I was watching
Highway to Heaven with Michael Landon. It was an episode where he was helping his wife (he had died young and was now an angel) and she was now very old. Of course he knew who she was but she did not know who he was. I was just crying nearly hysterically when my husband came in -- he thought something tragic in real life had happened. We still laugh about that.

When Cassie died on Young and the Restless ... I still think that was a waste of talent and not necessary at all.

1. ER - deaths of Lucy and especially Mark Greene
2. Grey's Anatomy - Denny's death
3. House - this season, when Amber died...soooooo sad, cried my eyes out!!

(Hmmm...notice the pattern? They're all hospital shows!)

When Edith was raped on All in the Family. :sad1:

When Dr. Greene died on ER. :sad1:

I remember crying a lot watching Little House on the Prairie, but I can't think of any specific episodes where I cried the most.

Roseanne's series finale did me in. That is one of my favorite shows and when I realized Dan had died, I was bawling!

That and the Waltons. There was always something sad on the Waltons.

Futurama. The episode where Frye remembers his dog and how close they were and at the end Frye gets frozen but the dog doesn't know it and sits outside the pizza parlor waiting for him to return. He sits and waits through seasons and seasons until he dies. We absolutely can't watch that one here or we all start bawling.

ER when Dr. Greene died. I still can't hear that version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" without thinking of that episode.

When Denny died on Grey's Anatomy.

The Real World 3rd season (San Francisco) when the let us know that Pedro had died.
