What is the rule about saving a seat by the pool?

Hi. Last cruise, all the seats by the pools always seemed saved even though they were empty for over an hour! How long do I have to wait before I can move someone's belongings (usually a pair of flipflops that have been there all day) so I can enjoy the pool area, too?

Ok. It seems like this topic was brought up before on another thread, but is now closed. I read through most of it (12 pages worth) and most people don't like chair hoggers on the the boat, but saving seats on Castaway Cay is ok. I agree and am ok with what the majority thinks.

Just wanted to share a little story about our last cruise. DH and I wanted to sit by the pool together. No luck. DH went to another deck. I sat on edge of pool and waited until seat opened up. Luckily one opened up within 15 minutes. Woohoo! I laid there for about an hour. There was a seat next to me that was "empty" for over an hour. It was saved by a shoe. The lady finally came and took her shoe and left. I was furious!!! My DH could have used that chair! Basically, she saved that chair for noone! Ugh.

Next cruise, if the seat is empty for 20 minutes, I'm moving your stuff.:hourglass

I agree. I will be more assertive on our next cruise and ask an attendant if someone's stuff is on a chair for a long time. On our last cruise, there was a huge family that put some very large matching T-shirts over the backs of the whole front row of chairs by the pool. It looked like they had had them made for this purpose, as they were there every day. NOBODY sat in these chairs. I tried not to let it bother me, but I must confess that this rudeness did get under my skin.

If it is just a DCL towel, it is open as far as I'm concerned. If it is someone's personal stuff, I'll leave it alone....I'm not gonna stand there for 20 minutes waiting to see if someone comes back or not.

Another approach might be to move someone's stuff to the adjacent chair. The the two people who saved chairs can duke it out over whose chair it is. If you do this, pick one in the middle of the pack not an obvious end chair or one off by itself. ;-)

Why put a flip flop on each chair, a book, a towel on two.... SO obvious!

Ooooh, I despise chair hoggers.....anywhere! It's so rude. IF you don't plan on sitting in the chair, don't save it! Or, how about having the entire family share a chair if you won't be sitting in it much?

We are going on out first cruise in December, so I have no clue what to expect. What time do the pools open? When do they get crowded?

.. When do they get crowded?

It can become crowed between 6:30 - 7:00am with chair hoggers putting items out.
Then around 8:30 - 9:30 it's crowed again with the folks who actually need a chair. They tend to look around confused because ten people are nearby yet 200 chairs have personal stuff on them.:sad2:

If you move someone's stuff because they are saving a chair (especially blantantly and for a LONG TIME), how will they know you did it? (hint, hint)
What will they do, confront you? I don't get confronted much... must be an aire about me.

I was on the Magic and a woman moved another family's belongings so she could sit and watch her child in the pool. The owner of the belongings came back and SCREAMED at the woman, calling her a thief, went and got a CM, filed a complaint, etc. The woman who moved the things just sat in the chair and read her book. The owner of the belongings never did sit in any of the other 4 chairs that held her things.

So yes, confrontations do happen.

Aaah, magical! :rotfl2:

I envisions two types of confrontation.

Confrontation: Excuse me, but I was sitting there. I just stepped away for a little bit...

Response: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see anyone around and there were all these empty chairs so I took one. No problem, I'll just move to a different chair.

or

Controntation: Hey, that is my chair! [yelling] Get out of my chair, NOW!

Response: Brahahahaha. What? Your chair? Not hardly, these chairs belong to the Disney Corporation. You snooze, you lose. Hey, so I don't lose my chair, would you be a love and go fetch me a soda?

I wish there were some good places to stash belongings while swimming if you don't need to sit in a chair. I think there are plenty of people, including me, who would be happy to stick sunscreen, shoes, etc. in a cubby rather than set them on a chair. But there really isn't anywhere to leave anything except on or under the chairs!

Agreed! But, I do not see why people can not put all their stuff on one chair instead of saving four and not sitting in any of them, this is the bigger problem..we've been on 17 nights of cruising and not once had a lounge chair in the pool areas...just not worth the aggravation and attitudes.

Which is perfectly acceptable, as long as it's one chair obviously holding the stuff for more than one person.

The problem is when Grandma comes to the pool in the early morning and sets a flip-flop on 2 different chairs, and a book on another, and a hat on a 4th, and a water bottle on a 5th, and sunscreen on a 6th, etc. So that everyone in her party has their "own" chair by the pool all day.

:cutie:

I saw one time when an officer was directing a couple of CMs to remove EVERYTHING from all unoccupied chairs--they were put in a box and presumably taken to lost and found.

For OP, the policy in the Navigator reads "As a courtesy to all our Guests, we kindly advise that the saving of sun loungers is not permitted on decks 11, 12, and 13. Items left unattended will be returned to lost and found at Guest Services, deck 3 Midship."

Seems pretty clear to me--if your behind isn't in the chair, it isn't your chair.
