What is the nicest hotel closest to DL

Possibly Anaheim Hilton. No personal experience, but several co-workers said it is VERY nice.

<font color=navy>I was at the Sheraton last week, and it's very nice - it has the largest rooms in the area, and the grounds are beautiful. I'll try & post some pics later on.

Are either of these within walking distance? If so, do you have to walk across a busy road or is there another way?

Sheraton to Disneyland is 1.8 miles:

Anaheim Hilton: http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=SNAAHHH

is 2.9 miles away.

Candy Cane Inn : http://www.candycaneinn.net/

is definitely walking distance!
It is right around the corner from the "old" entrance.
This is one of the first locations, but they have really remodeled and upgraded, etc. (keeping up with "Jones'"..........

We've stayed at the Anaheim Hilton, Anaheim Marriott, the Holiday Inn, and the Hyatt Orange.

The nicest ones are the Anaheim Marriott and the Hyatt (get the kidsuite). The moderate one is the Holiday Inn.

The worst hotel was our most recent stay in March 2004 at the Anaheim Hilton. While the lobby is really nice, the rooms are NOT nice at all. The rooms are worn and weary, and the bathroom tiles are stained with grout on the walls and floor. The stains are so bad that we had to lay down towels on the floor to avoid stepping on it. The bathroom size is sooo small that you cannot maneuver properly in there, esp. if you have a small child to wash. Also, there is a vent above the bathtub that drips water all the time. We went to the front desk to complain about the room and perhaps to switch rooms, and the front desk told us that "all their rooms are like that." Luckily, we weren't at the hotel so much since we were at Disney all day. But we'll never stay at the Hilton again.

If you like the location of the Hilton, then try Anaheim Marriott, which is just across the street.

I know you said non-Disney hotels, but if you can swing the price, the Grand Californian is VERY nice! Sometimes you can catch a break on the rate, it never hurts to check!

The cheapest rate I'm seeing for GC is $287. DLH is $272. That's just ridiculous for hotels where the reviews are hot & cold.

In 2003 this resort went through a remodel phase which I assume made it nicer. Also, I assume that's complete, now. This resort's address is 631 W. Katella. You can do a map search to see how close it is to the parks. I know it's very close to California Adventure. It's on the corner of Katella St. and Harbor Boulevard. I don't have first hand knowledge of the place; so, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for our early June trip. Anyway, it's ranked as a 3 - star resort. Through Expedia I was able to get a room for $45 a night on weekdays and $51 a night for weekends. I think that's going to be very hard to beat even if you go to a two-star resort. By the way, the standard rooms are gone at this rate but they have mini-suites left at $66/night.

My best suggestion is to do some searches through the websites for resorts in that area to compare.

For my resort savings from not staying at Disney's Paradise Pier, I'll be taking a 4-1/2 day cruise to San Diego, Catalina Island, and a Mexican port. I think that's better then staying on-site. By the way the Paradise Pier is only rated as a 3 - star resort.

I don't think I've ever read a bad review of the GCH.

while the disney hotels might be a little more pricey there is something to be said for staying in the middle of the "magic"

Last fall I was able to go on a Travel Agent trip to South. Cal. We spent a couple of days in Disney (yeah it was tough) and toured several of the hotels in the area. Several of us were VERY impressed with a hotel called the Annabella Inn. It is "across the street" from Cal. Adventure (keeping in mind what that means in disneyland) but the shuttle system seemed to be adaquate. This is a very nice spanish feel/look to it with very clean and good size rooms. Its one I've been recommending since coming back from the tour! Good luck have fun.
