What is the most unique or special item on your Christmas tree?

Every year I buy each daughter an ornament that usually reflects their interests at the time. The one I am most proud of finding is the Smores Lewis & Clark set. DD21 was obsessed with the expedition in upper elementary school so I was tickled to find this for her. Sacagawea even has a little marshmallow papoose.

Otherwise, last year I was given a large box full of vintage Disney ornaments. We don't have room for them on the tree right now but when the girls take their ornaments to their own homes, I'll start using them.

The first Christmas my wife and I spent together, we were not yet dating. It was freshman year of college. Our little friend group had gathered at her dorm room for a gift swap. I handed her this little box, which wasn't even something I gave her, and inside it was a little teddy bear Santa ornament. I had this big goofy grin on my face, and this was when she realized she "liked liked" me. We started dating that April and never looked back.

Anyway, Rikki Tikki Bear has gotten a place of honor on our tree ever since.

I have a very old celluloid Santa figure that was my Dad's when he was a boy in the 40s. It's fading so much he looks more like the ghost of Jacob Marley than Santa. We Call him the 'Shot in the Foot Santa' because he has a big hole in one of his feet where a modern light melted through the celluloid.

I also have an angel that used to be the tree topper for many years. She was my parents' first tree topper and is very 1965, all silver and tinsel. I say 'used to be the tree topper' because her head kept falling off, not a good look for an angel. So she was retired to a discreet home on the back of the tree.

I would part with all of my Disney ornaments before these two special things. It's not even 7 am here right now-I'll post a couple of pics later on today.

Okay, here are a couple of pics:

When I first met DH I found out his favorite Christmas movie is Rudolph and my maiden name is a nickname of that so we always laughed about that and starting the first Christmas we dated, I bought him a Rudolph ornament and one every year after. The year we were engaged, it was Rudolph and Clarice, we have a first Christmas one and then the year DD was born, it's Rudolph with the girl doll.

For me, I have two favorites dating back to when I was younger. A cookie monster one (one of my favorites always!) that I remember buying at our school Christmas craft shop, and a plastic Mickey Mouse that we always had. Seeing these on my tree now takes me back to those days and hanging them on our tree at home. I have to say, even though we didn't have much, my parents always made Christmas special and these ornaments always bring a smile

I try to do two trees now. If I had my way and time and money, I would love to have 4 trees (one "pretty" tree with just a color scheme, one Disney, one Harry Potter or Universal and one hodge podge). Anyhow, our main tree is mostly decorated with a set of glass ornaments in blue, white, silver. There are a few handmade kid ornaments if they match the color scheme (the other tree is set up with ornaments that the kids made, advent Lego ornaments, ornaments people gave us, etc.). However, my DH's great aunt gave him a really nice usually engraved bell every year when he was a kid (I think maybe she stopped when he was 16), we hang all the silver ones on our main tree. She passed away a few years ago, so it is nice to get them out and think about her.

I have three ceramic ones, that I painted with mom back when I was little (these are over 40 years old, lol). Then there are the ones the kids made. The first ones DH and I bought together. The one that DD#1 sent when she told us we were going to have another grandbaby to spoil (got 2 that next year, one in March, the other in July).

We have very few 'just ornaments' ornaments on the tree (when we put it up...not this year, since we are moving next weekend).

Mine is a cheap, plastic, lighted angel tree topper. It's been at the top of every Christmas tree for at least 50 years. When lit, the angel casts V-shapes on the ceiling. When I was very little, I would always look at those and yell, "Chicken feet!" Lol Now that my parents are gone, that little angel is mine. And every year, when I first turn it on, I still yell, "Chicken feet!" My patient wife just goes along with it.

My most unique is a wadded up ball of wrapping paper and tape. Back in the late 90's early 00's we were having Thanksmas( we could only meet up once during the holidays so we combined the two) with my sister and she, being the sister that she is, handcrafted that wonderful piece of ornamentation for me. I've put it on my tree every year since.

My most special. Probably the small triangular christmas tree my Mom made out of my Dad's blue jeans the year after he passed away. She made all of us one.

My favorite are all the retro ones that I've picked up in the recent years. I've even made a few cheesy tinsel-y wreaths that are very throw-backy that I absolutely love :)

So I looked up “unusual ornaments” and came across this...

Last year I was at my dd's in Clearwater Fl and there was a Christmas store that had all of these. Oh. My. Gosh. We had such a fun time with those. We giggle about them all the time. I can imagine either she getting me one or me getting her one some day :) That was so much fun!

We have a few, which I adore. We have two for our wedding (one was a gift). We have a clay ornament for most of our pets -- I have to get one more (I order them custom, but I know that this is a busy time of the year for the Etsy maker). We also have paw prints of most of the pets (one missing again, she's now used to us holding her paw so I can actually make that one soon).

Hmmm... most of the ornaments on our tree have some sort of meaning. Either made by the kids, or picked up on our travels, or given/received for some specific purpose. My favorite might be a small glass reindeer ornament. It's been on my family christmas tree as long as I can remember. I think my parents had it before I was even born. My mom gave it to me when I got married, and it's been on "my tree" ever since. I worry about it every year (since it's glass) but so far it's unbroken. I love the way it catches the light.

On my parents' tree, my mom has an ornament that she loves and the rest of us hate. It's a small but realistic looking Santa head with a realistic hair beard. We call it the "decapitated santa" ornament. It truly gives me the heebie-jeebies. We laugh about it every year and always try to move it to the back of the tree where it's not "looking at us." My mother, however, insists that it gets a place of honor on the front of the tree. My youngest niece (age 14) recently asked my sister and I if "someday" she could have that decapitated santa head ornament. I believe my response was something like "Ew! You like that thing?!?!" and she said "No. I think it's creepy. But every time I would look at it, I know I would think of Grandma." I thought that was sweet.

This year - My CAT!!! He is 3 months old and thinks the tree is his personal toy. Other than some garland nothing else is going on it.
