What is the most desirable DVC to rent points at

And they already have an internal rental system, but they use their points to sell at seven months out for $15 a point up to 24 points to members once a year.

I wish they would expand the 24 points to more. Let me deposit my points I am not going to use into their rental system and they could compensate me at $9-10 per point. They still make money. I get compensated. Win-win. That seems more of a rental system that would be a perk to the owners.

I don't think so on the brokers. They are only finding us renters. We still make the reservations. I think it would be really hard to crack down on them. Although, Disney might find a way to offer an internal rental system so they can make the money rather than the brokers.

Disney/DVC could put the brokers out of business overnight if they opened up their own rental service. But they have no need to do this. They have already sold the points and will get their maintenance fees no matter who is sleeping in the room. If someone uses the room rather than it sitting empty, they also get a chunk of money from park/food/souvenir/etc. sales. Putting this service on their own site would necessarily give it more exposure by orders of magnitude, and that might hurt their overall revenue. I don't know whether this is true and don't plan to run scenarios and models to make this determination, but you can bet Disney has. I think some people vastly overestimate Disney's concern with people renting out DVC points. Discouraging "commercial" renters even just with warnings makes sense. The idea of going after owners who are renting their points out on occasion when they can't use them borders on insanity. Disney has one of the most powerful and valuable brands in the world, they didn't get there by being stupid or shortsighted, and I don't expect them to start now.

We like all the resorts and own SSR & OKW but stay most times when not at FW at BW with BWview.

They will be glad to sell you a small contract of 25 points.

If for some reason (can't see it happening though) DVC did go into the point brokering business, there would have to be a fee to use the service.

And they would have to set up a separate call in for these reservations. Not MS and not an 800 number.

Plus who in their right mind would pay the regular cash price for a villa when they can get points from DVC for this?

Not happening.

So much cheaper at $15 per point though! :) And I don't use them every time. So far I've only purchased 2. Would be nice to be able to purchase more than 24 occasionally.

Although I have yet to actually purchase the one time use points I appreciate that they are available. This is a relatively new service they offer and it makes an already flexible plan even more flexible. This is intended to fill out a reservation so you don't have to add on due to occasional point reallocations at the resorts.

As mentioned before, they will gladly sell you 25+ point contracts. ;)

If you choose to rent your points to someone, do you usually get to rent exactly the number you were hoping for? OP is talking about renting the excess 100 points every year, but what are the odds that someone needs exactly 100 points (or whatever # you're looking to get rid of)? Don't you end up with a few left over or having to rent a bit more than intended?

I agree. It is only 24 points. Let us have it at the 11 month window at least.

Kim

Since they can only sell extra points they actually have from their own kitty or as members trade in points for other options. If you could o it at 11 months they would have to have various resort points available. By using 7 months they can take all the points from those they would be unlikely to sell the Disney Reservations that members have traded in for other options.

Wait. You can only buy those points at 7 mos and not at 11? The website didn't say that.

24 points works well for Disney.... doesn't give more than a night or two at most locations. Their whole point system for each resort is well thought out... seems to always leave you a tad short or much extra.:-)
