Guess it's just how the body carries weight.

Do you have short legs? I'm about 6'5 and am surpised that you could have worn a 30 only being a few inches shorter than me.

Of course you were also 15 lbs lighter and wore a jean size 2 inches wider than me.

It varies from brand to brand. My Wrangler Rustlers have 30" inseam, and it's as long as 32" on Levi, Old Navy and Lands End Jeans. And Old Navy jeans are cut funny (okay, differently) than any other brand I have ever bought. Much more form fitting :scared1:, I tried them on and didn't thing they'd get past my hips, but they are plenty big in the waste. I am told they make my butt look nice:scared1::scared1:

Geez...I'm 5'4" and my inseam is 31". DH is 5'8" and wears a 30" inseam. It is shocking to me to see men who are over 6' tall wearing a 30!!

I can't believe there are 3 pages on this and no one has mentioned those waist sizes-- so very, very often you see some man wearing a size 34" waist pants when it should probably be a 38"+ because they wear it below their bellies!
How often? VERY often, lmbo.

"I still wear the same size pants I wore in HS." Yeah, right! lol

My DH is 6'1", 50 yrs old and wears a 38X32 or a 38X34 depending on where the pants come from. Sometimes he has to go up to a 40. He's always had very large quads so if he goes to a smaller size, he can't get his legs to fit inside of the upper part of the jean. He does need to lose some weight, too.

My DS 12, wears a size 30X30.

It's called Dunlaps' disease. That's when your belly done lapped over your belt. :lmao:

Actually, unless he is extremely muscular, I would garner he is either overweight or borderline obese being 6' and 200 pounds depending on the BMI calculator you use. I don't mean this in a negative way, but it's part of the rising trend in obesity and "acceptance" of what is average and normal weight. For a 6' Male, his ideal weight should be sub 180, again, excluding those who are very athletic or have a very large muscular build.

Wow, just wow! Are you kidding? :sad2:

No, I'm not, would you like to expand upon your "wow" statement. The fact is obesity is a serious issue in the US (and other countries) and there is a very large misconception of what healthy weight is and there is a general acceptance that "average" is healthy when average is most often overweight to obese.

This is coming from someone who use to be considered overweight, and people thought I looked good, healthy, etc, but I was overweight and was adding stress to my body by being overweight. When I started losing weight people asked why, and I said it was because I was overweight and they looked at me like I had two heads.

Yup. Look how much Disney had to spend to deepen the canals at It's A Small World at Disneyland because people are so much heavier now than 45 years ago that the boats were bottoming out.

PERFECT!! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

It is so darn common. But if they have a belly, wearing their pants up ON their belly looks ridiculous also. :confused3 :rotfl:
Just untuck the shirts, I guess.

Not on the poll selections, but my DH is 5'9" and wears 33/30 or 32/30, depending on the pants.

My DH is 5'11" and weighs around 240. He's wearing 38X32. His ideal weight is around 180 but I'm not sure he'll ever get there. At his heaviest (280) he was wearing 40X32. My DS's wear 34X34 (he's 6'3" and weighs 180 but likes his pants loose in the waist) the younger DS wears 30X34 but is on the verge of needing 30X36 (he's 6'2", 150 and still growing)

:thumbsup2 I heard Dr. Oz mention that men never go up a size in their belts due to Dunlaps Disease.

My dh wears a 36x34....he is 6ft and weighs 220. He has never had a problem with jeans until here recently. He has a muscular build and has always had to wear jeans that are cut fuller in the legs and butt. He played college football for 4 years, but now that he is getting ready to turn 42 years old, the seat of his jeans is beginning to sag. A very nice elderly man told me that there is also a disease for aging men concerning this sagging of the jeans. It is call NoAssAtAll Disease for aging men.

My ds15 is 5'11" and 180lbs....also very muscular build with long legs. He wears a 32X32.

Those choices are way too small for average American men. Average waist size would be 36+, not 34 and below. The 36-40 range would be much more common for adult males.

I'm a 36x30. I'd need to lose 10+ lbs to get back into 34s, and I'm not exactly overweight by any means.

You cannot judge a person you have never seen by a waist size.

I know, right? I could've responded and told him that according to his jeans size I would consider him anorexic or too skinny. BUT I decided not to do that.

Go ahead, but understand that I I live a healthy lifestyle, I'm within normal (almost dead center) of a healthy BMI for my height and body style.

Waist alone, no, but add height and weight and you can get a general idea of their build. My nephew is 5' 10", 190, but he has a 30" waist because he is ripped, he would show overweight in most BMI calculators. That said, using his wasit size in conjunction with his height and weight, you can see that the standard BMI calculator will not work.

Good for you..i'm still unsure why you singled out my post and chose to inform me that my husband must be overweight or obese. You have never seen what he looks like. The topic was jean sizes, you chose to single out my post and turn it into a health infomercial as if I was ignorant and needed you to fill me in on the subject.
