What is the medical marijuana eligibility in CA?

Thank you. I didn't realize anxiety was considered a medical condition. I actually have anxiety and panic disorder and I am prescribed prescription

Definitely a medical condition, as true anxiety is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. I am diagnosed GAD and have benefitted greatly from an SSRI that is FDA-approved for that condition.

Not sure how I like the idea of using marijuana to treat the anxiety. I have benefitted from occasional use of Xanax .25 mg when I feel a panic attack beginning, but the one time I smoked pot (age 20, in college) I had a flipping panic attack because it was such a weird sensation!! :rotfl:

I think marijuana should be made legal for prescription usage, but perhaps not in the typical manner we are used to seeing it in. Maybe a pill format. Don't even know if that is possible.
I did have one bad experience with pot oh so many years ago. I got the spins. It was awful. I was lying down and felt like I was on a merry go round that was going 100 miles an hour. I suspect this was a bad batch or had something extra in it. I have been on benzos for so many years for anxiety, my panic attacks are becoming resistant. I was on 4mg of xanax up until last month, it stopped working completely. I switched to klonipin but it's only a matter of time before it stops too.
What I do like about marijuana vs alcohol is the fact that you rarely hear of someone getting violent while high. If there were a way to test for marijuana usage while driving, it would be much better than alcohol. The government can regulate, tax it and grow it in a controlled environment.

;) Is there a non liberal part of Oregon? :rolleyes1 ;)

I beg to differ the highlighted point. Currently there is no way to ascertain whether or not someone is under the influence of MJ. MJ can stay in ones system for days to weeks depending on usage, metabolism etc. Here in NV we are a zero tolerance state. A single nanogram of THC (I believe) and one is considered under the influence and subject to all penalties that someone with a Blood alcohol level of .09 or higher would be subject too.

To the best of my knowledge there is no known way to test actual level of current intoxication and until they figure that out I honestly do not know how any state could ever legalize MJ.

Personally, I am all for it, however, the inability to test for it is worrisome to me.

Actually, yes. Portland and Eugene are very liberal. Most of the rest of the state is conservative.

As a side note and an FYI - It is my understanding, that employers do not have to accept the "card" when screening current or perspective employees and that a person can be terminated or denied hiring based on a positive drug test regardless of card holders status.

MI law allows an employer to term the employee even with a medical card. So I don't see what a lawsuit against Walmart would accomplish.

I am a HR Mgr with a site in MI. We do pre-hire drug screens and would not hire if someone tested positive for marijuana even with a medical card.
may i ask why?
I have a friend who got leukemia about 12 years ago and it nearly killed him. he went thru 3 years of treatment, he lost tons of weight and was in bad shape. He couldnt ever eat and keep food down, so he was dropping pounds that he desperately needed. They tried medication after medication for him. At some point his older brother had heard about MJ being used for cancer patients so he got some and had his brother try it. For the first time in a long time he actually had an appetite and was able to function like a normal human being. NONE of the prescription pills he had tried could do that for him. This was before you could get it legally in CA. I am now a huge supporter of Medical MJ because it saved my friend Tommy's life and gave him hope. There are other known uses out there also.

But you just write that person off? they are no good to you and your company because they happen to need a certain medication? that is truly disgusting behavior in my book, i dont know people like you live with yourself. He wasnt smoking it to get high and to party, he was smoking it so he could eat and have an appetite and therefore LIVE. the sad thing is you probably have a HUGE percentage of people working for you who do smoke pot, there are dozens of remedies and kits to get around an office drug test, but people that really need the stuff shouldnt have to do that. I hope you never suffer an illness that requires a drug that your company finds questionable, you will have to fire yourself in that case !

I would disagree with that, based on my own experience. While I have seen people feel anxious while they are on it, others feel the opposite effects. I had suffered from major anxiety and panic disorder for years. Tried different therapies, homeopathic remedies, & MANY different prescription meds. So far, the only things that will successfully stop a panic attack to decrease major anxiety episodes for me are anxiety and Ativan (prescription med). Nothing else has worked for me so effectively than these two "meds" in the past 20 years that I have suffered with this.

now I DO agree anxiety IS a med problem for sure! I had to be treated for it when I was married to my first husband because he abused me , I just would not use THAT for it ( for me) because as a teen if I was at a party and did that my anxiety level went through the roof!! lol maybe because I knew I was doing something wrong...lol I think its great that it helps some people.I have chronic pain and would love to be able to see if it worked but I can not do that...I have 3 kids and I would not be able to take care of them....also I dont want the extra lbs!!!:rotfl:

Yeah really...all I need is something to make me eat MORE! :rotfl2:

Where is America now with the medicinal uses of Ecstacy? Recently people have started to consider "safe" and indeed, there are health benefits to it.

:lmao: Just for the record, I am not laughing with you!
Sarcasm is such a thin veil for ignorance.... :sad2:

No, seriously, it has serious medicinal benefits and IS considered relatively safe by some people. I don't agree with the "safe" thing, but am fascinated by the benefits it could have. Do a quick search of the net - MDMA is a very interesting substance.

:flower3: Just looked it up and Wow, I greatly apologize to you for my remark. Several pages of rational replies and I got thrown off by yours as the first smarmy one. Interesting stuff in the articles I pulled up.

Again, I am very sorry for jumping the gun there.

No worries, no worries! I can see how you'd consider my post snarky.

Thank you. I have to say I'm amazed that no one has posted anything strongly against the legality of marijuana......the times they sure are a-changin! :goodvibes

Oh, I'm staunchly against it except in medicinal uses. I won't go into my reasoning as debates are pretty much forbidden here, but suffice to say I've researched and witnessed the results of regular cannabis use and my conclusions are unshakable.

Besides, the last time I argued my point, people on both sides of the argument got pretty riled up and things went south pretty quickly, so probably best not go there again ;)

I agree that it is very hard to have good hard debates on here-way too many people with way too many opinions & points of view to offer! :)

Wow, this is something I have never heard before. Why is this not being looked at in the US? I thought you were being snarky, too.
We still have a long way to go with a federal law legalizing medicinal marijuana, I guess I will never see medicinal ectasy in my lifetime. I've never even tried it. But I agree with the PP who said it's really nice this conversation has gone on so long with no fighting. I think it's because we are keeping it in the vein of medicinal usage only.
