what is the maximum pointas that a DVC 'er can have ?

My understanding is that you can own a maximum of 2000 points at any one resort and a maximum of 5000 points total.

DH is convinced that my goal is to get those 5K points! :rotfl:

There isn't necessarily a limit to how much you can own though there is to how much they will sell you at least on paper. It's 2000 per resort and 5000 total per person. If you do it correctly, a couple could double that. Plus resales could only be controlled by ROFR. I doubt they even check and wouldn't be surprised if DVD themselves have sold retail points to people owning over the stated limit. 5000 points is $500K retail.

Frankly I could not afford the maintenance fees on 5000 points. That would work out to about $23,200 a year based on BCV fees.

If you bought avacation home for $500K, your taxes would be comparable to the maintenance fees on 5000 points.

Depends on where. In San Diego county, a newly purchased $500k house would have a $5k tax assessment.

I cant afford it too ... just wondering ... just in case I win the lottery :);) :goodvibes

Disney is giving away 5,000 DVC points as a prize in Year of a Million Dreams.. and personally I'd rather have that then a night in the castle. It's the gift that keeps on giving!

At some point a while back I checked how many points it would be to stay for a whole year. At the time it was just over 5,000 -- 5,114 for a studio at OKW. I figured they did that so that no one could have enough points to stay all year (at that rate, renting 114 points from someone else probably wouldn't be a big deal) However, now when I check .. it looks like AKV is less?? 4,507 for a studio Animal Kingdom Villas (Value)

Of course that same house would probably be less than $200k if it were located almost anywhere else in the U.S.....;)

I seem to remember seeing blocks of points as big as 10,000 for sale on the listings page. Talk about BIG $$$$

Sure ... but even as I posted the comment, using the $500k figure offered earlier in the thread, I wondered, "Where in San Diego county can you find a house at/under $500k??" LOL!

The good news, they do exist ... and are candidates for the vacation home market: located waaaaaay up in the hills, far from work, in rustic condition, etc.

In this area of Texas the $500,000 house has a tax bill of over $11,000. :scared1: This is without city water, sewer, and storm drains. Makes you wonder what they do with the money? :sad2:

I haven't seen anything that large. 1200 is the largest I recall seeing with a few 1000 pt contracts along the way..

I think we have heard of some people (or is it groups of people) who have access to 10,000 points, but I have never seen anything higher than a 1000 point contract on the resale market.

But isn't TX one of those lovely states not collecting income taxes? (There is balance in the world ... somewhere.)
