I am still really trying to do the ToT run. However, with the 3 trips we have planned next year DH doesn't think we should go. So I am trying to make this as budget friendly as possible. So I was thinking we could do the 20 hour drive... we have done it about 3 times before. Dh thinks I am nuts....well I didn't become Fairy Princess of the Your not Right Club for nothing:lmao: .

So my question to you is what is the furthest you have driven for a event??

Thanks
Kim

We drive from Bowling Green Ky when we go to WDW. It's an 11 to 12 hour drive. It's a long drive but it's worth it, the memories we make when we are there are worth the drive.

We feel so blessed that we have made friends with the wonderful WISH Team. Our time at WDW will be even more special now.

I saw a phrase that so discribes the WISH Team.

When you tell a team member what you are planning to do they say, "Sure Okay, sounds like fun". Someone else would say, "you are gonna do WHAT".

Kim,

The furthest WWDave and I have driven to a race is from our home in south
central KY to WDW. It takes us about 11-12 hrs to get there!!

Erica:)

The fartherest event i have traveled for was the DL Half 2006 :)

I had wanted to visit DL someday but it really was a way off thing. But basically I went only because they had the event. Add in that it was the best ever because i was able to spot WISH members at the Expo, DTD and even in the parks and later in the race. Much easier i think at DL to WISH watch LOL

Disney announced the DL Half i think in August 2005 (?) I think Susan had our hotel booked in September, it wasn't very far off from them announcing the date but registeration had not opened and we had hotel reservations.

I seem to recall the registeration for prior Disney racers was set for Saturday because I think it opened early on Friday or something. I remember Susan calling me and saying the link was up and she was registered. I arrived home from work and quickly did the same. We signed up the 1st day and I wouldn't be surprised if we weren't in the first 100 to do so LOL

Now all this was done without us having completed a half yet. We had commited ourselves to traveling across the country without having proved we could even do the distance LOL I'm sure our DHs thought we were nuts.

In 2005 we were directed to the bus  So it was a big step as we were training for WDW 2006 and to suddenly decide we were doing DL 2006 also.

Did it, done it have both medals from 2006 to prove it :cloud9:

I totally understand about your desire for ToT. I was working the day it opened and thank goodness my boss was off (his office door is right behind me LOL) because I was going online and checking every 1/2 hour the day ToT Registeration opened. Again I have to be in the top of those that registered when it opened because I was all but hitting refresh LOL Susan was in the mist of driving home that day and walked in the door and registered before doing anything else. I drove home, called Mom and when I walked in the door grabbed the computer and signed her up - We just ain't right! YARC!

Hope you can convince him to go for it. Looks like you still have time to work on it since they haven't started to put up the capacity %s yet :)

BTW, I'm not sure but I think Helen has the winning record for longest distance to travel for all Disney races. She's from New Zealand (or is she in Australia now?), i hope she posted her since I haven't had the pleasure of seeing her do so in a bit.

I can't drive to WDW (30 hrs!) but I do fly there for events. I was talking to my DH about some local and some distant (Texas) events, and he says, and I quote: "We're not going to start going all over for these things, except for Disney."

I'm just thrilled that I get to travel to WDW for events!

We also flew to California (from Delaware/Philadelphia) for the Inaugural Disneyland 1/2 Marathon. We'd never been that far west and it was the perfect excuse to finally see DL.
DH says he sees this as a lifestyle for us and wants us to travel to destination races when we retire. I think he mentioned Hawaii and somewhere in Europe. I just heard there is an amazing distance event in Sydney Australia. ;)

Cam - I agree with Howard. In fact, I'm planning on going to Hawaii for the Maui Marathon in September 2008.

I've also flown to Calif. for the DL 1/2 and FLA for the WDW events in 2006 and 2007. Also tri-d the FL 1/2 IM in 2004.

I hope to become a member of the 50/50 club someday. Of course this reinforces why my family and friends think the "YARC" is perfect for me! :lmao:

Terri

CAM! I just noticed in your siggie about the push-ups and crunches! That is amazing! Keep going! :cheer2: And I like Howard's thinking there

Thanks everyone. I am still working on him. He doesn't mind flying in as DD and I did it for the Minnie and we are flying in for Marathon Weekend but I thought we might cut some costs if we drive in.

We have agreed if I get a good SW price on flights we will be there, I don't think the race will sell out and we won't have any problem getting a room in October. October is when we usually go do Disney and it is never busy.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Kim

Good luck Kim, I hope to see you there in October!

I think this qualifies me for YARC, and definitely earns me some air miles:
Friday Oct 19: Fly to San Francisco
Sunday Oct 21: Run Nike Women's Half in San Francisco
Monday Oct 22: Fly home to Calgary, arrive 2 pm - do laundry and re-pack
Tuesday Oct 23: Fly to Orlando, leave 1 pm
Saturday Oct 27: Run ToT 13K
Monday Oct 29: Fly home to Calgary

I really want to run the Flora London Marathon in April 2009. That one will certainly be a long trip.

Whoa! Leana, that's some itinerary!...and I thought I was crazy for doing the DL 1/2 mary this year followed by olympic distance triathlon a week later.

For me, the farthest race I've ever competed in was the Paris 20k back in 1997.

Kim - We drove from New Jersey to WDW in January (approx 16 hours). We stayed until the Friday after the race. In August we will drive from Jersey to Chicago for the CDC (approx 12 hours). We'll drive out on Friday & back home on Monday. In October we will fly down to WDW for the weekend for RFTT and then we will drive down at the end of the month for TOT staying until the Friday after the race. We'll also drive down to WDW again in January for Marathon Weekend, again staying until the Friday after the race. Hope you are able to work it out (whether you drive or fly).

We fly to WDW for all of the races(otherwise it would take a week each way). Almost 3000 miles as we are only 3 miles from CA border. We will be doing this 4 times in 13 months for 2 Goofy's, Minnie, and ToT.

I have driven 8 hrs to Seattle to do the Seattle marathon twice from Medford OR.

Robert by CA boarder do you mean Canadian boarder or California, I made that mistake once on another board I frequent, I assumed CA ment Canada but they ment California.

Paris: I think you won for the furthest distance travelled.

Karen and Leana: WOW major travelling, I don't know what my DH is talking about....lol.....I guess cause I want to leave Thursday after work, drive about 10 hours, get up Friday drive the other 10 - 12 hours, do Halloween party Friday night....Run on Sat night and leave early Sunday and get home middle of the night Sunday or early Monday morning....lol....he said we will drive as long as the amount of time we are in disney???:confused3 I don't seem to have a problem with that.....:lmao:

Kim

Kim, Babe, you get a special ranking in the Court of "YARC"

Visual of all of us on our knees bowing, "We are not worthy, We are not worthy".

Erica and I get to do the MNSSHP with you guys on friday night,

Have a safe drive down, we will be blazing the trail for you from southern Kentucky on down. We will leave a trail of pixie dust for you, and a huge big hug for all of you will be waiting from all of us.:wizard:

Dave:hippie:

OK, CA = California CAN I believe is Canada....Wow Robert that is a long way, we are only about 2200 KMS which is aboout 1300 miles...I think.

Well I guess we aren't that crazy afterall, DH has agreed to go but wants to fly. Which is much better only take us 2.5 hours of flying and 2 hours from our home to the airport in Buffalo......WAHOOOO

Congrats. I am glad that he is allowing you to go.

I have driven an hour for a race. I know. I'm crazy. The Disney trip in Jan did become a full family vacation after an October Disney vacation, though. It started out that I was just going to go for a "quick" weekend and ended up staying for 8 days. :confused3

Scott

Thanks Scott, I am really looking forward to it.

Before it sounds like he is a really meanie. These are our upcoming trips. DD and I where in Disney for 5 days in May, We are doing the Marathon weekend in Jan, A 7 night cruise and disney in March and a 4 night cruise and disney next dec and then marathon weekend again in 09. So he is just a little worried about costs, so I do understand...he is great at feeding my travel addiction....;)

Kim

It's amazing how much these trips start piling up when you schedule around events. You sound like me. Four trips in less than 12 months for me too:
  1. Minnie this May
  2. ToT in October
  3. Marathon in January
  4. Family meet up in March
I hope you bought your annual pass this year :)
It's good that you're flying. You don't want to be in a car that long before running a race.
