What is the earliest/latest your schools start?

My DD reminds me that High School had an optional zero period that started at 7 am for clubs, and other extra things that could not be squeezed in after school.

Elementary school: 7:10am- 1:50pm
Middle school: 8:30am- 3:45pm
High school: 7:45am- 2:50pm

I think our elementary schedule is crazy. If DD had ridden the bus, she would have had to be at the bus stop an hour before school started every morning- 6:10am!! That is ridiculous. The sun wasn't up and my young child was supposed to be standing at the edge of the street? I ended up driving her or walking with her every morning all 6 years. The dumbest part of the early bus time? We were the first bus stop, but our street was less than 1/4 mile from school. She could have walked to school in less than 10 minutes, but would have had to ride the bus for nearly an hour. Insane.

Is there any reasoning given for such early starts?

Where I live you have to be over 2 miles from school to even be considered for a bus other than kids with special needs. Busses were only for grades k-4 and grades 5&6 could ask after the first few weeks of school if there was space. Basically between the push back to neighborhood schools and each school having its own hours they have gotten rid of most regular buses. The busses we had though only stopped at a few locations so more people chose to use public busses which had closer stops and better times. We live 1/2 mile from k-8 schools so my girls have always walked until high school. High school is almost 2 miles so my oldest takes the public bus which is $26 a month for unlimited bus and subway rides.

Not that I know- the schools need high school to be out at 3 so kids can do sports, clubs, etc and still be able to get to evening part time jobs. Not sure why they think it is a good idea for the youngest kids to start so darn early.

Yeah, the elementary kids could start at 9 am no problem.

I teach high school. We start at 745am and end at 2pm. It is very likely that our start times will change next year with high school starting at 830am and ending at 3pm.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure when the other schools start. I think the middle school actually starts 15 minutes before us.

That's an hour shorter than here. They go 8am to 3 pm here.
