What is the earliest/latest your schools start?

Our schools are all staggered for bussing purposes. The earliest schools start is 7:15 (most of the high schools) and the latest is 9:15 (mostly middle schools).

Personally, I think 7:15 is too early for high schoolers and 9:15 is crazy since many of the schools are in the city and the traffic going that direction for that start time is horrible.

I am currently looking for a job in the school district and checking start times as I do NOT want to drive in to a 9:15am school that gets out at 4:15. I would be doubling my commute to work with the traffic times.

Our middle school starts at 7:00, high school at 7:15, (4-6) 7:40, (K-1) 8:25 and (2-3) 9:00.

Our schools are staggered also with a handful of elementary schools going in and getting out later than most others. Our elementary school happens to be one of them. My Dd is in high school and I believe her home room bell is at 715. If I recall the elementary bell rings around 9.

All of our schools have slightly different start times though it has nothing to do with bussing. The earliest start time for any of the schools is 7:40 with the latest being 8:15. Dismissals vary from 2:10 to 2:30 with two getting out about 3:30. High school is 7:45 to 2:15. My high school dd needs to leave by 7:07 to catch the public 7:10ish bus down the street and is at school about 7:25. My youngest walks and can leave at 8 for 8:15 start.

Our elementary schools start at 7:20, high schools at 8:20 and middle schools at 9:20.

Elementary school is out at 2:30, high school at 3:30 and middle school at 4:30.

Start times are staggered so the same bus drivers can drive different bus routes.

The worst is getting on the bus at 6:50 for elementary school and getting home at 4:50 from middle school

Most schools around here (k-12) start at 9:00. Private schools may be different but I don't know..

Ha, traffic here is WAY thicker at 7:15 than at 9:15! (Though 8:00 would be worse than either).

We have one rural elementary school & all the others are "in town". The rural school starts at 7:55 and ends at 2:55. All the in town schools start around 8:15 and let out at 2:55.

Elementary is about 8, middle is about 9, and high is about 7:20.

I hated teaching middle because we weren't out until 4:20/4:30. LOVE high school - I'm a morning person and enjoy getting home around 3:30.

HS and MS start at 7:45 and end at 2:45. The schools are across the street from one another and share buses. The elementary schools start around 8:30 and get out around 3:30. I'm not sure the exact times because I don't have kids that age and the times changed a bit from when dd was there.

We have minimal bussing in our district, and no bussing at all for the high school, so there is no need for staggered times. Elementary and Middle school start at 8am; kids can arrive as early as 7:45am. HS starts at 8:05; late start Thursdays start at 8:40am

Elem gets out at 2:45pm, Middle gets out at 2:55pm, and HS gets out at 3:05.

MS and our Elementary start at 8, busses arrive at 7:50
The rest of the Elementary schools start at 9

high school 8:14 (though there is a zero period VERY FEW kids do that starts at 7:15-driver training, a couple of extracurriculars meet).

the latest either would start would be the one Monday per month we have "late start" (for teacher/staff stuff) in which case it's 2 hours later for both (the instructional day is not extended on those days).

my son would KILL for only a 20 minute bus ride-he is picked up at 7 for his 8:15 start, gets out at 3:05 so we don't see him back at the bus stop till 4:15 at minimum.

Our kids don't go to our public school, but I think they have a pretty similar staggered schedule to what others have posted (e.g. 7:30 HS / 8:15 MS / 9am Elementary).

Our older son's HS starts at 8am - dismissal is 2:30pm and our younger son's private school starts at 8:30am (dismissal at 3:30pm).

I meant the busses arrive at the school at 7. My kids get picked up at 6:20, they are the first ones on the route. They are the first ones let off though so they are home at 2:00. Not sure why it isn't reversed but they aren't complaining.
Your son has a very long bus ride, that has got to be horrible!

High School which is 7-12 starts at 7:30 and lets out at 2:15. Elementary school is 8:30 - 3:00.

Ours is within five minutes of this as well (completely backwards of what I wish it was! - DS was always up early in the lower grades, but has a much harder time getting up now, in high school.)

I think most experts (and other parents) would agree with you as well - that the older students get, the later they should start the day.

The problem, generally speaking, tends to be that the older the students get, the more time in the day they usually need (for homework, jobs, afterschool activities, etc.) so I think that's why most school districts schedule the way they do.
