What is the Dinosaur ride like?

Is there a drop like in a rollar coaster?

Hi,

The Dinosaur ride is rocky and aggressive but not close to roller coaster type of movement. It is a great ride.

Dinosaur is one of my favorites. It's dark and very rocky with , of course, Dinosaurs that come upon you suddenly. No drops. :teeth:

Definitely no drops -- just bumps and jolts in pitch darkness followed by raw terror as the light comes back in time for you to see the huge scary dinosaur that is about to swallow you whole.

It's a GREAT ride.

It is a 12 person vehicle that uses a motion base to simulate movement (bumps, etc.) My son likes it except for the fact that it is very loud.

Thank you for posting this. I have been there several times and have never tried Dinosaur because I thought it was a lot like a coaster. And I can't handle coasters (too chicken)
but I love Star Tours, and Soarin' (in DL) so if I can handle those, then I should be able to handle Dinosaur?

The best way to describe Dinosaur (at least in my opinion) is a moving simulator ride (like Star Tours). Instead of staring at a movie screen, the simulator is on wheels and moves around to different areas. If you can do Star Tours, you should be okay. This one's scary, but not rough (I've been on it several times and I still get tense riding on it). Don't get me wrong, I think it's great, just puts me a little on edge.

I did Dinosaur, and will do it again. It is very choppy and loud, but no drops. I screamed like a little girl, but it was fun. Keep your eyes open and you will have no problem!

If you've been to Disneyland, Dinosaur uses the same ride system as Indiana Jones at Disneyland (if you did that).

It isn't really that much like Soarin', but it is similar to Star Tours.

The last time I rode Dinosaur, it broke down and we had to be evacuated. It was interesting to see the inside of the building with the lights on because it's basically a big warehouse with some fake plants and animatronics every so often. The ground is perfectly flat and all of the "rough terrain" is created by the vehicle shaking itself.

It's like Star Tours meets the Universe of Energy.

I think that Dinosaur is one of the best rides in WDW. You sit in what looks like an open jeep. It seats 4 people across and you have lap belts and a net in which to put your belongings in front of you. You start off in search of Aladar. The terrain is choppy with sudden turns, a few very slight drops and dinosaurs all around, some looking like they are coming after you. Then a meteor blast is coming and you have to abort the mission. You see Aladar to the side of the vehicle and home in on him. Then a Giant Carnatour lunges at the side of your vehicle (this is when they take the picture) and your car feels like it does a sudden small dip and if you are looking straight ahead, you will see you just made it under the human eating dinosaur. It is a bit intense for little ones (my 10 year old doesn't like it), but DH and I LOVE it. If you have problems with your back, heart, or are pregnant you shouldn't ride this, as it is like a rough ride through rocky terrain. I can't ride it again for 6 months per my doctor, as I just had back surgery--- going to AK won't be the same.

It is hilarous as well. It's an inside family joke now,

"Right! Left! Right! Left!"

"Identify!"

"Begin evasive manuevers!"

(And if you're a CSI viewer you'll recognize the pre-ride shows' actor too. My son and I crack up every time he makes an appearance on CSI.)

We love Dinosaur. It is actually MY favorite WDW ride (until the Soarin' ride goes in at Epcot! I loved Soarin' at DCA!)

If you do sit on the outside seats it might be a little rough on the upper arm. I am not sure if I got bruises on Dinosaur or BTMRR, but I had a HUGE bruise on my arm from hitting the inside of the vehicle very roughly. That bruise lasted almost a month and had huge knots in it. Worth it all!

My 13 year old son says he still gets a tad bit scared when that dinosaur roars at you! If the picture comes out good, make sure you buy it.

If you can handle Star tours you'll be more than fine on Dinosaur. ST gives me a headache and is too jerky. Dinosaur swoops around but alot smoother and nothing really sustained like a coaster ride. Nice ride in my opinion.

So this is scary for adults too? Is is scary like someone jumping behind you and yelling boo! or is it scary like a walk down the alley in a bad neighboorhood? Does that make any sense?

I cannot do rollercoasters or star tours. Dinosaur is my most favorite ride in all the parks. We laugh and scream the whole ride. It's a must in my book!

Not to be a spoiler i hope, but driving away from a dinosaur that wants to eat you scary. It could be too scary for some kids, but as an adult who knows that Disney doesn't want you eaten so you can spend more money i think you'll be fine.

sounds like DH and I with Test Track!

It's scary!!!! Especially if you're a big chicken like me. I go through with my eyes tightly closed but my DS (12) just loves it!

I know its not coaster type drop but isnt there a small drop right at the end when you are about to get eaten....I know its not a stomach in throat type drop but its still a small drop that feels bigger than what it is....As for kids it can go either way....some will freak out some will love it....Its very dark and very loud...very very intense....My youngest rode ToT but would not touch Dinosaur....He is 4...si you have to make that judgement about the kids....but be prepared for anything if they ride

thats too funny...thats a huge toad at the end of it...LOL
