Hey all!

First I want to say I LOVE the food in Norway. It's at the top of my list. I hear people raving about the school bread and last trip I got some and found it... blah.

This is what I want to know - Is it suppose to taste like that? Now when I got it, is was a little dense, a bit dry and not sweet. There wasn't much custard to get some on all the bread. Now I know not all countries put a ton of sugar in their food and that's fine, I don't like things really sweet. This was just dry and bland.

What has been your taste experience with school bread so I know whether to try it again or just give it a pass?

We found the school bread to be really bland and unenjoyable, but we loved everything else we had in Norway. Not sure what the school bread hype is all about!

I remember it being fairly moist, I certainly don't remember it as dense. I have a friend from Norway so I'll have to ask him what it's actually like over there!

I first had the school bread on Christmas morning in 2006 and it was DELICIOUS! Moist and chewy, tons of custard. Had it again in 2009 and ick, it was dry and tasteless. Thought maybe I'd just gotten a stale one. Seems like that's the norm now.

Used to be larger, light, and creamy/custardy and yummy. Sort of a light jelly donut consistency full of custard and covered in shredded coconut. DH decribed it like eating a sweet puff full of butter.

The new version pales by comparison. Comments range from just ok to blah to what's the big deal?

I had it a couple of years ago and haven't been tempted to try it again. I much prefer the sweet pretzels.

I had it for the first time last month, and it was all right. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't as great as I was convinced it would be. I'm glad I tried it, but I'll get something else next time.

tinka-belle - THAT is what I imagined it would be like. Bummer. I might try it one more time on this next trip first thing in the morning and see.

I LOVE the rice cream and the veiled maiden is yummy to. That's my thing, whether to spend the $$ and the calories on something that's hit & miss or something I know I'm going to like and it consistent.

+1

First time I had it, was delicious...and the whole thing was soft and moist --even the coconut was moist (i.e., FRESH!) Now, they must make them somewhere else (apparently a long ways away since they're so dried out by the time they get to the counter! )

Small, stale bread circle with 1/2 tsp. vanilla Jello pudding and dry toasted coconut. Yuck.

We also loved the almond pretzels before...now those are all dried out too.

I started really reading the disboards several months before our first trip in May '09. I read wonderful reviews of this School Bread.

We get to Epcot and I was on a mission to get me some School Bread. What I got was NOT what I had read about. Soooo disappointed.

I got back and we had a discussion here about the School Bread. Seems they changed it like right before my trip. Someone posted before and after pictures and there was a HUGE difference. I think it came down to the bakery not making it on site anymore??

I would have loved to had the old version. I will not get the new version again. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. lol

Ooohhh.....I had the same experience. I tried it back in 2009 with a cup of perhaps the worst coffee on the planet. It was the most disappointing snack ever!!! I found the school bread dry, dense, bland....:confused3

My kids and I split one in May and it was pretty good. Not that we are going to get it again but we were glad we tried it and were able to cross it off our list of must things to try at Disney. This trip it is a dole whip float.

Oh man, we LOVED it! We've only had it on one trip, just this last September.

Delicious!

I was there in September and thought the same thing, YUCK, why do people love this. I did have a AMAZING Almond Tart in Norway though !!

The schoolbread is truly a shadow of its former self.

I went to a bakery, um, daily the 16 months I lived in Norway and never saw anything resembling schoolbread while there. Must be a regional thing in a place I never visited.

I couldn't agree more! I liked the fact that the bread wasn't very sweet, because the custard and coconut on top were sweet enough. The latest incarnation is smaller and the bread is dry - so I don't eat it any more.

It's definitively smaller and I too like the fact that it's creamy and not too sweet.

I had one in June and it was really full of cream and moist, I split it with my BF. I had another one in August, barely any cream and the bread was a bit on the stale side I split it too and I was a tad embarrassed because I had raved about it and it was a disapointment. With the constant flow of customers you wouldn't think something popular would get stale mid-day! I've never had anything stale from the french Boulangerie/Patisserie

I would imagine they are filled by a machine not by hand, so you'd think the amount of cream would be consistent! :confused3

My husband and I love it! We get one and share it. It's light and fluffy. The custard in the center is not heavy and is not overly sweet. Love the coconut on top. While it's donutesque (is that even a word lol) I like it better. It's not too heavy.

I tried the school bread a couple of trips ago and I too didn't see the hype of them. Mine tasted more like a donut with very little custard. My favorite snack in Norway is the Cloudberry Horns so I get those all the time now :cloud9:.
