What is the deal with Lights, Motor, Action?

Last week we were at WDW, and on Monday we were at MGM. We saw the first show of Lights, Motor, Action, and there was an accident at the end of the show (actually, we just THINK it was the end of the show - we're not really sure how much more there would have been). Anyway, the guy flipped the car over by hitting the ramp wrong. We all sat there while people ran around and basically covered the car, then we had to leave the stadium. No explanation, no information, nothing. It was very strange. So we went back on Saturday to see it again. The first show we never even got into the stadium, just waited on line for 45 minutes and then they cancelled it, the 2nd show we got about 1/4 of the way through the show and there was this God-awful alarm noise, the show was stopped, restarted about 15 minutes later, and then stopped prematurely again when the motorcycle scene didn't go right (the fire was out by the time the guy slid through it, therefore he didn't catch on fire!!).

So have they just not perfected this show or what?

I think it's the kind of show where something can go wrong no matter how often they've done it. It's the human element aspect.
We've seen it once, and that's about enough for us.

It sounds like they've been having technical difficulties, as the show has certainly been perfected. We've seen it a number of times, and every stunt has gone off perfectly.

I'm wondering if they've changed something that may not be obvious and it's causing some issues. Interesting to hear there has been a problem on more than one occasion during the course of your stay (two weeks or less?).

Yes, we saw it Monday and there was the accident. Tuesday it was down all day, from what we understand. They opened Wednesday for at least one show that I know of. And on Saturday, 1 show was cancelled, and 1 definately wasn't right. To me, that's a bad week for a ride!!

I had seen on tv (can't remember the channel) that they had stuff down to almost a science on this show. I'm sure that with human error things happen. Just hope everyone was ok.

a big ditto on that one.

don't get me wrong, the show is OK and i can certainly see where things could go wrong (i.e.: to cause the show to shut down early or cancel) but we all found it to be sort of lame. the jumps are ok, if you have never seen a motorcycle catch some air before. But if you have seen a supercross event or watch the moto events in the X games....this show will leave you asking - is that it?????

I've seen it once and can say I probably wouldn't see it again. Some parts were pretty exciting, it was too long for me. I know they have to set up the next stunt, but it's just not for me. I think I also expected a little more from it. Speaking of mess ups, we were at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show and her flipper wouldn't come off at the end of the show. Max was pulling and pulling! It was kind of a bummer. My poor daughters were just waiting for Ariel to get her darn legs!

Well, it is a live and dangerous show. So if an accident happens, then I'm sure they'll have to shut down the show for atleast the rest of the day or two to make sure everything is okay and to make sure the ramps are defected. These are just precautions for make sure the stunt drivers are 100% safe during thier performances.

I'm sure the ride is having a bad week. It happens to people, so it can happen to - yes, believe it - Disney rides and shows! Nothing it perfect, not even Disney, so aren't they allowed a bad week and a few cancelled shows to ensure safety?

We went to Fantasmic once when Mickey came out at the beginning, the part where he shoots sparks out of his fingers--sparks only came out on one hand and he started shaking his other hand up and down (like ow! ow! type of motion). We think something went wrong and he got burnt. Anyhow they stopped the show about 2 minutes later and just said it was canceled due to "technical difficulties". Not a popular decision with a full amphitheatre! But stuff happens in any show--Fantasmic is done every single night, I believe, so if it can get shut down like that, anything can.

we were there on Saturday as well...they didn't do half the stuff they normally do at all...the motorcycles usually come out first and they didn't even start with that.

I am hoping that they work this out and that everyone is still safe.

the lamest part of the show is that they use video recording from Euro Disney when they're supposedly tape the stunt. One doesn't even need to pay extra attention to catch that. :lmao:

My DS was THRILLED with this show, as was his friend--they were 9. I thought it was *ok* but have absolutely NO desire to see it again. DS would love to see it again. Oh well, guess we'll reach some compromise: one stunt show for one Little Mermaid show. HMMMMM, methinks I'm onto something!!!!

I saw it once (no accidents, seemed to go as planned) and I don't care if I EVER see it again. I'm usually easily amused and love stunt shows, but found this rather boring. Question for the rest of you...this March we'll be bringing a couple as our guests and they have never been to WDW before. Our day at MGM is pretty full and we were considering skipping this attraction. Should we or should we make sure they see it?

My son has not stopped talking about this since September. He absolutely LOVED it. He's 6, and really into cars, Monster Trucks, etc. I wouldn't miss it for the world just because of his reaction!

I personally would skip it. It takes alot of time to load and unload and if you can see at least 3 other attractions to 1 LMA, I would skip it. I would also skip Stitch if the line is longer than 15 min. Those are the only attractions I would ever recommend skipping to new guests but they are truly time eaters and there are so many wonderful things to see at WDW that dont take nearly as much time as these 2.

i'm still angry with the show because they had to take out the houses to make room for the set! you know.....like the Golden Girls house.....very upsetting to not see that anymore!

Depending on the age group, I guess. Tweens and younger, older people (myself included), driving enthusiasts (myself included) wouldn't want to miss this show.

After you've seen it once, of course it now becomes the domain of "photographers only".
