What is the closest to sail date you have booked?

You can't do it any more due to homeland security rules, but we booked the NEXT cruise while we were on the ship and turned our 4 night Wonder cruise into a 7 night back to back cruise. It was less than 24 hours before the next sailing. It was spontaneous and awesome!

DCL was allowing people to book the next cruise onboard the Magic during her first Europe season. So it still can be done that way.

DH and I are taking our first Disney cruise on September 30. I know we booked at least a year ago and have been saving and planning for two. On some of the social media cruise groups, I see people booking the cruise now.

So I got to thinking, how close to sail date can you book? What is the closest you have ever booked? We think we might buy a placeholder. Can you use it for a late booking? I understand we would have to be prepared to pay in full but we would still have a 10% discount and OBC credit, right?

Thanks all.
I've booked less than a month in advance with DCL.

Oh yeah i forgot about that, I did that too January 2007 for my third and fourth cruise!

I booked in mid-April for our June 25th cruise. I was able to get our desired stateroom category and the dolphin excursion for our daughter. Then I just switched from late dining to early when we got on board.

We went on our 1st Disney cruise (and 1st cruise ever) last summer and booked 2 weeks out. We got everything we wanted including main seating. We had no issues getting excursions we wanted or tickets for Frozen character meets or Disney Jr. breakfast tix. It was an awesome experience and it was great having such a short countdown.

Closest I've ever done was 8 months -- for last year's NCL Breakaway cruise to Bermuda. We booked it in February. We seem to always book a year or more out -- and just keep an eye on pricing and deals.
