What is the CANADA pavilion at Epcot missing?

Looking for a Canadian perspective.

What would you do to improve the Canada Pavillion at Epcot? What would you add, or take away?

Culture, Scenery, Dining, Customs, Entertainment, etc...?

I'd take away the ridiculous lumberjack costumes. Also I'd redo the video to be a ride like soarin, wouldn't it be great to fly through whistler, swoop in on a polar bear in Churchill, or whale watch over signal hill?

I think the whole pavillion is boring & I don't think we're boring people here but that's what people from other countries see. When I look at the parliment buildings, they remind me of the England Pavillion for some reason. I like the movie though & Le Cellier is yummy!! I would add the CN Tower & maybe make that a lookout point, obviously not as high though LOL.

tim hortons.

Honestly, I still can't figure out why Tim's isn't in Florida at all. It's a natural, what with all the snowbirds.

It's not that we're boring, it's that this country is so multifaceted. You can't really capture it in a pavilion any more than you can the U.S. And our motto--'peace, order and good government'--doesn't make for great theater.

TIMMIEs! Can you just see the lineups? They'd need to put in FP machines! :lmao:

I second that one!!!:thumbsup2

I agree folks - now to see why I asked this question, check out the DISdads forum for more details.

And if you are a Dad with the love of Disney, come over and join us.

Here's a sample of the converstaion there as it unfolded....

Tim Horton's... puts Dunkin' Donuts to shame any day of the week!

Wow! Them's fighting words. At least you didn't insult Krispy Kreme. If you can resist the "hot and now" sign you're a stronger man than me. I'm pretty weak though so that's not really much of an accomplishment.

It's the only request of our friend who come down and stay, BRING TIMMIES!

In Michigan, when they opened the first Tim Horton's in the US, the three Dunkin Donuts within 4 miles of it closed down within 6 months.

I know it sounds like "fightin' words" :) But as you see from Randy's response, it really is true. I can't explain it, but Tim Horton's is a phenomenon in Canada, it unites the country, it's java goodness. It is one of the main reason's many Canadians would never move.

To help you understand this, next time you are in Epcot ask any of the CM's in Canada about Tim's.

If you ever swing by T.O., I request a DISdad's meet, and I will by you a coffee. You got to order a double double (It's Canadian lingo that you will understand once you get here, eh)

The best is when you are at Le Cellier, they ask if you'd like a cup of coffee and you can normally get "Is it.." out before they cut you off and tell you it's Nescafe, not Tim's.

A CS option.... I think it would be great to be able to have a bowl of Cheddar Cheese soup without the hassle of trying to land the coveted Le Cllier ADR, or enjoy a plate of poutine. The opportunities are endless.

The costumes need some serious reconsideration.

Our hockey culture needs to be more prominently displayed throughout the pavillion.

The amount of woodland creatures on display could be scaled down.

I just returned from a great visit to WDW and I will say, the mouse ears specific to Canada are actually kind of cute.

Just my .02

Love the ears... excellent find!

What is with the plaid...we don't all run around wearing it! Canada> Hockey baby! As for QS rest.> sell Poutine!!! YUM! I think a Tim Hortons would be an excellent choice. We always go through withdrawl once we leave the state of Maine. (I will be having one before my plane leaves on Dec. 31st!) Lobster, Rocky Mountains, more hockey, All of which is more canadian than "plaid". To quote my sister, who was recently in Florida, she laughed when asked by a Floridian.."Canada, does it ever get warmer than 50 degrees up there?" Yeah...well lose the lumberjack theme and maybe people would get the picture that most of Canada is not under snow 365 days a year...and I would love a good Quebec poutine while down there!
:thumbsup2

Le Cellier is great - keep it. I've heard that you can get the Cheddar Cheese soup to go but have never tried it. Maybe add a Counter Service spot that serves the soup and some other quick items - like poutine.

The movie kind of skips over the prairies - Manitoba and Saskatchewan. That's a sore spot to me. :sad2:

Tell the real life story of Winnie the Pooh.

I'm not fussy about the lumberjack outfits but what would be a better Canadian costume.

I love Off Kilter but I don't think there's any Canadians in the group.

Sell Winnipeg Jets jerseys and Smoked Goldeye; Goldeye is a fish in Manitoba.

Poutine take-away!!!!

I'd also love to see the movie revamped and updated. It doesn't HAVE to be a ride, but as mentioned, a Soarin'-isk type ride would be awesome, but I would settle for just a new show that showed all the provinces and territories.

Snarfieca is correct, there are no Canadians in Off Kilter though they do do a fine imitation.

As for the comments on plaid ... not all Scots wear kilts, not all Arabs wear thawbs, and not all Japanese wear kimonos, but those types of clothing do represent their respective cultures. Plaid is most closely associated with lumberjacks and Canadians. Thank Monty Python for that :lmao:

Timmies would be great, but would probably cause all the other CS locations in EPCOT to shut down ;)

actually off kilter does have a canadian now! he's the fiddler from ontario. i was pleasantly surprised to find this out last yr. totally agree with winnie the pooh(huge fan!)

i havent seen oh canada in awhile, but was so upset when they showed the east coast of canada. they made us out to sound like coutry hicks! now granted the gentleman that did the voiceover in that part was from the south shore of ns and you can tell that by the way he speaks, but it made us sound uneducated! not many of us city "snobs" for lack of better word sound like that.

how about alexander keiths? or show halifax's citadel hill. how about our strong military presence from coast to coast(my army wife roots are showing!), julies music house, heart shaped pond, can't remember if peggys cove was shown or not. anne of green gables!

funny enough on fb yesterday on a mommy chat group i was haivng a convo with several american moms who didnt understand that our thanksgiving was in october, not november. once i gave her the run down on it she replied it doesn't sounds much different than ours. :sad2: there are so many bad sterotypes about us, including that we all live in igloos cus of the snow 365 days a yr. disney has the chance to show it how it really is and should do something fab with it.

oh yeah and bring back the beaver tails!!!!

Oh' I hadn't heard about the new fiddler. A token Canadian -good to hear.

Beaver tails are so good. Are they still around? Yes please bring 'em back - with Timmies coffee. Now that would be great.:thumbsup2

yes im not sure when he joined, but i think branford ontario. that name seems to ring a bell. i was kinda stunned, cus its the running joke, off kilter and none are canadians.

beavertails are here in halifax! we have them on the waterfront for the summer crowd, and in the metro centre(concerts, comedians, etc). i never got to enjoy one in disney, but bring em back!

I vote for beaver tails - that was our favourite when we go to Epcot! And please get rid of the totem poles! A small version of the CN Tower and a mini Niagara Falls would be great - more hockey, Winnie the Pooh and less igloos and Indians would be great!

I asked a cast member working the Canadian pavilion about Tim's and beaver tails back in 2009. He said since Tim's is owned by Wendy's and Disney does a lot of work with McDonald's, it's unlikely you will ever see it on Disney property.
He also said they couldn't keep up with the demand from beaver tails so they stopped serving it. There's funnel cake at the American pavilion which is almost the same thing.

All I'd like to see is poutine and more beer. Nothing wrong with Keith's, but it'd be great to see more options.
