Can anyone tell me which is the best brand of washing machine for quality and customer service? Because my mom is looking at buying a new washing machine and I would like to hear what brand of washing machines are considered the best. My mom looked at Maytag washing machines and Maytag has gone downhill and also LG also has gone downhill in their washing machines too

Unfortunately, washing machines today will not last like the ones of the past. Last year I had to replace mine, it was probably 25+ yrs old. I got a Maytag and have been happy with it, but I was told to expect to replace any brand in about 10 years.

We have a Samsung (after getting rid of a 13 month old Maytag. Long story) and have been happy with it. Lot of people swear by Speed Queen. They are pricey but good machines.

We purchased an Electrolux washing machine a couple years ago when our old machine died. Yes, Electrolux makes washing machines.

The thing about service is this: You have to find out what machines are serviced in your area. This is one of the reasons it's helpful to buy from a local, dedicated appliance business rather than Home Depot or Loews.

I had a Maytag for 20 something years. When it died recently and I started looking around, I found that the quality of Maytag isn't what it used to be. I went back to Whirlpool and have been happy with it so far.

I buy whatever my local appliance store tells me is best at the time. They know and haven't steered me wrong yet.

I currently have a GE front loader.

I wouldn't ask for opinions at the big box stores. They have steered a lot of my friends to Samsung appliances, because that's what they offer. Samsung has no support for its appliances and TVs, and many friends had problems within the first few months that couldn't be fixed.

Rather than offer an opinion on a particular brand, my suggestion would be that you simply go to the library and read the latest article that Consumer Reports published on washing machines. Customer service is more dependent on local dealers where you live than the manufacturer.

Well anyway ... Good Luck finding a washer you like for your mom.

We love our Speed Queen! It is about 10 years old; I hope they haven't changed them.
Talked to my neighbor and I don’t think her complaints are specific to Speed Queen.

This was her first washer in a long time and she doesn’t like how they don’t fill with water anymore or how the lid locks once the wash starts. Those are behaviors of most new washers.

I have 22yo whirlpool duets (the OG front loader). I need to start researching replacement options soon. Washer makes a thunking noise sometimes when it ramps up during the spin cycle.

I've been through many washers in the past 40 years. We moved 2 years ago and I bought the Speed Queen washer I had wanted for a long time! It's a top loader with old school dials instead of electronics, lol! I LOVE it!

I can't help with washers and dryers per se although I just bought new ones after using the laundromat for the last 20 years. I went with GE as I always had good luck with them. My mom and daughter both have Samsungs and have had nothing but trouble with them. I bought Samsung for my kitchen a couple of years ago and had the Refrigerator and Oven both serviced within 18 months. The appliance repair man, after I called several who wouldn't service Samsung, told me to stay clear of Samsung and LG for any appliance. They are known for having issues and not many repair places will service them. He did recommend GE as being a decent product. I wasn't crazy about the washer locking on a top load but it can be paused if it needs to be. I wanted to make sure as I am notorious for forgetting something.

Hope your mom finds something she likes

I miss my large capacity top load LG, it stayed with the house when we moved so I would always go with that if I had a choice.

Where we are now I have a top load Maytag I like well enough, it is base level so it doesn't fit much, the unit came with the place and I will be happy when it is replaced.

Not a fan of the "high efficiency" models of anything because they do not use enough water to get things really clean and it is gross to have deodorant and such still on the clothing or to need to wash things twice. Side loading also tend to have less water which is very icky to me, plus I hear they tend to leak if there is a problem.

When my 8 yr old front loading LGs go out, I am going to get a Speed Queen.
My front load LG's work perfectly fine, they use enough water and clothes come out clean with normal cycles. But, looking at the units on the market now, they don't use enough water. My daughters boyfriend is an engineer for Samsung and even he says not to buy them :/

We have an LG, top loader. Got it in December 2020 and *knock on wood*, no issues. At first, I was excited to get one WITHOUT an agitator. I was thinking how nice it would be to dump my basket in and be done. But no. You have to still put the clothes in a donut shape, as if there is an imaginary agitator. I do think my clothes get just as clean though. But I put each load on "deep wash" to get more water in there.

Our previous washer/dryer were Maytag. Had from 2008-2020. They were fine but the dryer had some issues.

I hear tons of good things about Speed Queen but it was more than I wanted to spend back in 2020. However, it's definitely a brand I will look into when our current pair craps out.
