We are VERY interested in buying DVC points. Can anyone enlighten me as to what specials have run at different times of the year or when is the best time to buy? Right now they are offering an $8 per point rebate and giving all 2005 points dues free. Is this a good special or do they get better? This offer is for SSR. Thanks in advance for your wisdom!!

I was wondering this too. I couldn't buy during F & F. I also read someplace on the boards that the prices went up in the summer months. Of course, this is when we are probably going to buy. I will wait until fall if it looks like a better deal may come out.

DVC has never offered any seasonal incentives. They always have been based on what the market needs were at the time. Prior to Friends and Family (which ended at the beginning of this month), the price was $98 per point with an incentive discount of $8 per point- making the purchase price for new purchases $90. Since F&F ended, that program is still in existance. Purchases by exiting members at SSR are still at $98 per point unless they buy 100 or more where the same $8 incentive will be applied.

Reportedly, the price will rise to $101 in March for new purchases- I would expect some incentive discount, but doubt it will lower the price to the current $90 with incentive (it will likely be $93 per point). The price will remain at $98 for exsiting members until late spring/ealy summer when the $101 price will apply there too.

The F&F program was the first time that much of a discount was offered since the $15 per point at VB years ago.

I would not suggest waiting for a better discount and will be shocked to see the $83.30 price offered at SSR again thru Disney. Resales may be the only way to find better pricing.

In the past, other incentives offered a discount of $10 per point, but you had to forfeit your first year's points (and still pay the maintenance fees on those points). The F&F was unique in that it offered the discount and allowed the use of the current Use Year's points.

Stay tuned! :)

F&F was a friends and family referral discount of 15%.

The best time to buy IMHO is as soon as you can afford to; the price of points just keeps going up and up with no end in sight, so lock in as many as you can afford as soon as you decide it's right for you!

The "best time" just expired on Feb. 1 with the ending of the "Friends & Family" promo.

The best way to buy is arguably resale, when you can basically set your own price (if you can find a willing seller and pass ROFR). My TSS agent made a convincing argument to me that buying SSR might not be the best move, so I bought VWL for 86/point.
