What Is The Best Food You Make From Scratch?

Home-made spaghetti sauce
Non-spaghetti spaghetti sauce - so good that you don't even need the noodles with it
Pork BBQ
BBQ Sauce
Chicken Marsala
Country Style Steak
A few cakes
Roasted veggies

Looks like meat seems to be most of my specialties.

The one thing I wish I could make is homemade biscuits! I have tried lots of recipes and also watched them made on different Food Network shows and tried to make them. Nothing works! They always taste terrible and don't even look like something you would want to eat! :confused3

If you have access to the 'Company's Coming" series of cookbooks, my recipe is in the Casserole cookbook (regular, not the "light casserole" book). As I said, don't work the dough too much. I just kind of gather it all together in a loose ball, throw it on the baking board with some flour, and knead it about 10 or 12 times. Then I pat it out in a rough circle about an inch thick. I use a small glass (yesterday I used one of the kids' plastic tupperware glasses) to cut them out. They have to be cooked on a very high heat, 450 or so. I use one of the Pampered Chef stoneware baking sheets. I'll PM the recipe if you need it.

Well mine are definitely Southern.

Collard Greens
Pinto Beans
Meatloaf
Cubed Steak
Mashed Potatoes
Deviled Eggs
German Chocolate Cake
Pecan Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Snickerdoodles

Would love that reciepe for Baked Lobster, Pea Soup with Ham, any quiche Thanks

Okay, this isn't fair, receipes need to be attached! (Especially for deviled eggs and sour cream cookies) :goodvibes

my family would likely say-

italian style pot roast and pasta
lasagna
meatballs
(and all of this from a red haired irish girl :teeth: )

several types of soup (bean, beef, veggie, chowders)

i would say-

old fashioned rice pudding (very custardy with raisins) or
bread pudding

Oh boy, this is a great thread OP! :thumbsup2
I love to cook, and I'm pretty good at it, these are some of my specialties:
London Broil w/ special gravy ( Goulash)
German Fried Potatoes
Roladen ( German again, rolled beef with a variety of stuffings)
Baked Ziti
Baked Macoroni
Cream Spinach
Stuffed Shells
Chicken Parm
Lemon Pepper Salmon
Feta Stuffed Chicken
Greek Country Salad ( not really cooking though)
Strawberry Cheesecake
Peach Cobbler

My FDH looooves that I love to cook, because many young women of my generation don't step foot in the kitchen. But it is such a stress releiver IMO :goodvibes

(The secret to good biscuits is to kneed the dough only 10-12 times, they will be hard if you work the dough too much).
That is so true...the same with pie crust. It may not create the most beautiful dough, but it is definitely the best tasting result. I have always thought that the biggest mistakes in ANY cooking come from trying too hard.

I am a good cook too. I am not a gourmet, but I am constantly getting raves about my meals.

I would say my baked goods are the best foods I make...but maybe that is because I love them so much, LOL. My kids all have a favorite...stuffed cabbage, chicken alfredo, beef stirfry, london broil are a few that never have leftovers.
