My dad might be going to Disney with us and we aren't doing the dining plan this time around. I want to make at least one nice dinner reservation (doesn't matter if its character dinner or not...). My daughter wants Chef Mickey's...which was good! Its just that my dad is picky, lol...so I got to make him happy. He's not a fancy food kind of guy...so any ideas?

Believe it or not, as far as food goes my favorite buffet (lunch/dinner) is Crystal Palace at MK. The food is excellent there. It is a little crazy in there sometimes though, so if you're looking for relaxing I wouldn't recommend it, but great food!!

Another good "all you can eat" but you don't have to get up and get it is GG at Epcot. It has characters but is more "low key" than CM or CP since you don't have to get up to get your food and the food is very good there.

I never cared much for CM's food at dinner. O'Hana's used to be really good but has gotten some mixed reviews lately. And it is a little noisey too.

Otherwise for nice sitdowns I'd recommend AP, JIKO or FF.

I second the vote for the Crystal Palace (Dinner). A liked Chef Mickeys for breakfast..... but never tried the dinner. 1900 Park Fare at the grand floridian was a decent buffet

Cape May Cafe was not so good in my opionion.

Another vote fort Crystal Palace. We love this place. Chef Mickey's is pretty good to. I know he is picky but a lot of people love Bomas. Good luck.

I liked Chef Mickey's, and so did my DH who is a VERY picky eater. My almost favorite restaurant at Disney is the buffet in Germany. The food is really good, and they have a German band that plays. They do the chicken dance and play the big horn (not sure what it is called, they used it in the old ricolla cough drop commercials). My picky husband also likes this restaurant. Have fun, wherever you go!! :sunny:

I love the prime rib there. I would eat there even if it wasn't for the characters. this is our third time goign and wwe ar eeating there.

I love the dinner buffet at O'hanas. The servers walk around with skewers of pork, steak, etc.. It is so yummy and all you can eat.

I haven't tried CM or CP, yet! I'll let you know next week how they are when we get back.

I am a big fan of 'Ohana though. They have something for everyone there plus if you time it right and get the right table you can see the fireworks at MK.

Crystal Palace is great, but what about Cape May Clam Bake? That's a great place to eat. EDIT> As OP says BOMAS. How could I forget that?

Having travelled recently with my FIL and his wife, two recommendations are Boma at AKL and the Garden Grill at Epcot (which is not a buffet, but "family style" dining where they bring platters to the table).

Boma is fantastic. They have something for all tastes, and even the less adventurous in our group found it to be fresh and delicious.

Garden Grill is standard type fare (turkey, steak, pork and catfish with veggies, salads, breads, etc.) but also very tasty and fresh. The added bonus with Garden Grill is that it is a character meal with LOTS of character interaction and one-on-one attention, without being super noisy. This was good for us as FIL cannot hear that well in a room with lots of background noise. It's very laid back and we find the service there to be very attentive.

We did do Chef Mickey's for breakfast just with the kids, and found it to be good as well, but it was definitely noisier that either Boma or Garden Grill (in case that is a consideration for you).

Have a great trip!

For picky Meat and Potatos types, Chef Mickey's Crystal Palace, or 1900 Park Faire would be fine. If he likes German food, then Biergarten is good. Boma is not a suggestion from me for those that really don't want to try new things. But I like it.

Thanks everyone, but my dad decided not to go:(
I booked CM for my dd, and might book hoop de doo (never been)

Even without the characters we would still go ther because we love the food so much. Prime Rib, Alfredo, chicken and bread pudding to die for.

1900 Park Fare for dinner is my favorite. It is one character buffet where I felt like it was good food with bonus characters instead of Characters with food.
