What is the benefit to upgrading to AP while in the park?

What exactly is the benefit to not outright buying an annual pass but waiting and upgrading at the park?

I would like to take advantage of the monthly payment plan for FL residents but this can only be done online.

Would I be missing out on something if I just got it now?

$avings. When people upgrade, they buy a discounted ticket first. Once they use it, they receive the full gate-price towards the upgrade.

Or, they just want to spread the purchase price out over two payments (the initial ticket and the upgrade)

The only benefit people get is like mentioned above. Buy discounted tickets, upgrade in the park and the ticket is upgraded at the Disney price. So if you got a ticket online for 80 but it's really 100 in the park, you upgrade and they credit the ticket as 100.

You can do it also as a Florida resident. We put like $100 downpayment then do monthly payments which we set up at DTD
