What is the absolute latest you can cancel without getting charged?

Hi I am traveling with my small children and not sure how they will handle the character meals. If our kids have a bad experience at our first character meal (a breakfast at 11 on Monday). Would I be able to cancel a dinner reservation for the next day (4 pm on Tuesday) on Monday? I know the policy is 24 hours, so am I right to assume that as long as I cancel before 4 pm on Monday I will not be charged?

It's not 24 hours. You have to do it by 11:59 the night before so you should be good! :)
 
A Dining phone CM stated it was 10pm EST the night before when I asked this week. FWIW, the one last week said the same thing when going over the terms/conditions/cancel policy prior to giving me the reservation #.
 

11:59pm. I've cancelled around 11pm and didn't get charged. I got really sick and had cancel our breakfast reservation. :( (I was sleeping when I got sick)
 
The dining line CM probably said 10 PM because that's when the phone lines close, but if you go online you can cancel until 11:59 PM without penalty. There are some meals/events that have a different cancellation deadline (e.g. Wishes Dessert Party, CRT, etc) so it's best to check all your confirmation emails.

I've never had to cancel that close, but you never know. I just make sure on reservations like CRT, HDDR, Specialty Cruises, Fantasmic! DP, etc.

You can cancel your dining reservation online or by calling (407) WDW-DINE or (407) 939-3463 up to 11:59 PM Eastern Time on the day before your arrival. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.

Some restaurants may charge a fee for cancellations or no shows. Each restaurant at Walt Disney World Resort maintains its own cancellation policy, so be sure to check the policy when you are making your reservation.

For more information, please refer to the cancellation policy provided in your email confirmation.

Edit: OP you're right about phones closing @ 11pm EST, but look @ verbiage... it says call up to 11:59pm EST... They will be closed.
