What is that SMELL coming from Epcot's character spot??

I've noticed it on every trip outside of MouseGear, with the exception of my first trip in 2011, but I think I may not have noticed it because I was still in super-awe of being at WDW. The smell outside MouseGear smells like a rotting diaper, and it permeates the whole building. Which is a shame, because I like shopping there.

umm yeah, I have never smelt it in MouseGears, but the Character Spot building, when you come through the backside is awful, smells like wet dog/ wet old blah.

The thing is, I don't remember much greenery (trees, bushes, etc...) by the entrance to the character spot. I could be wrong though. Can anyone confirm? Hmm.

Dan

I never smell it outside of Mouse Gear--only in Mouse Gear. And yeah, "sewer" is always my first thought, too.

I have seen people complain about that smell here at DIS for years (even when I used to lurk).

And last time through there (2013), it did, indeed, smell really bad.

I always notice it inside the building where the character spot is. Yuck! I don't smell it outside though.

I never noticed it before, but last week I did. It was terrible! Walking through between the Character Spot and Innoventions positively reeked. I have no idea what it is, but if it is a plant they may want to reconsider their landscaping choices.

Never been in the character spot and never noticed it in Mousegears until I read a thread on the DIS. The one entrance into Mousegears the smell is awful I never noticed it before because I never went into that part of the store. It definately smells like sewer backup

I'm positive it is a leaky sewer pipe, and has been this way for years. I don't know why Disney won't address this. Isn't there a bathroom right next to this place? The smell is unbearable at times. I'm sure if Disney dug up the floor they would be disgusted by what they find. There is definitely a sewage problem. But hey, I could be wrong.

Yep--- there is a bathroom very close

Grease trap on the outflow from the food venue is my guess.

There's a Taco Bell on W. Kennedy Blvd in Tampa that emits exactly the same odor.

Yes, that's a good guess and that's a smell you do not forget if you have ever worked in a restaurant. Horrid.

The other thing I noticed last year was a horrible smell in Spaceship Earth. Man it was gross, and I had to keep my face in my scarf. I was dying. And I don't mean the smokey smell from the ruins. This was like really bad B.O. or something.

Didn't notice anything in Mouse Gears though.
