What is still not back to "normal?" (Updated April 2023)

You could get them upon request. Since Covid, you can't.
Hard to say if this was a Covid change or if that was just the next step that was literally about the happen anyway. My money is honestly on the latter. This didn't feel like a Covid related change to me.

The title is "What is still not back to 'normal'?" That is one of the changes since reopening that has not gone back to normal. No need to quibble about this. Moving on.

I found their attitude really strange.
Seems like they didn't understand this isn't Disney's call and is for safety. Disney lets a lot of things slide, but I doubt this was one of those times. Since they were at your table, did you ask how that went for them the next night..? I don't think I'd be able to resist.

I'm sorry if I offended you or you felt like I was being argumentative. That wasn't my intent. I was really just saying that going "back" makes it seem like this is going to change back to having them. Given the direction that this was going prior to the pandemic, I doubt this is going to change back since the norm prior to Covid was that they were phasing them out already vs. all the other stuff mentioned here which really was completely different from prior to the pandemic (muster, Palo, etc.)

Has the cruise stopped wearing masks yet? If not it's not back to normal.

If crew is speculating that muster drill could go back to as is was then there is likely enough to run it and needed incase of emergency.

More going to come down to what the coast guard allows and what DCL wants to do.
Since there's only been a few times in history where cruise passengers have actually had to go to muster stations you have to wonder if it's all in vain. I personally think it would still be mass chaos...hopefully we never have to find out.

For sure, no matter what way they do it when you set in panic of a real emergency most won’t remember much of the drill and just freak out. Especially since many barely pay attention as is.

Am I the only one who likes the pirate menu, lol? I see so much hate for it in these groups/social media, but my family really liked it.
We like it too. I think that there are a lot of really picky eaters now. We never have any problems finding food that we like on any menu.

Some of us like the Pirate menu, thank you very much. The mango soup and the jerk chicken are some of my favorites.
They just need to put the mango soup in a glass, call it what it is (a mango lassi) and give me a straw. That spoon and bowl is a joke. I just want to slurp it through a straw.

We usually find something on the menus but pirate night is by far our least favorite and usually the night we do palo or something else.

The braised barbecue beef rib salad on the pirate night menu may be our favorite of any MDR item on any menu.

Yep, and my daughter loves the crab cakes. There are so many good items on that menu that I don't understand the hate for it.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Looking back at some old threads, I'm also wondering about:
  • Are they still capping ship capacity in some way?
  • Are the main dining rooms seating multiple families together again?
  • Are the refillable beer mugs readily available again (I heard they had supply issues a few months back)?
  • I heard the Skyline Passport card was discontinued. Anyone seen it recently?
  • I think meet and greets are back to normal. Does that include autographs? Cast members taking photos with guest cameras?
  • Palo dinner now has a fixed price menu plus a la carte, right? Was that introduced after the restart?
  • Are the soft drink and ice cream stations self-serve again?

Looking back at some old threads, I'm also wondering about:
  • Are they still capping ship capacity in some way? I do not think so
  • Are the main dining rooms seating multiple families together again? They are on the Wish
  • Are the refillable beer mugs readily available again (I heard they had supply issues a few months back)? Not sure

  • I think meet and greets are back to normal. Does that include autographs? Cast members taking photos with guest cameras? Yes to both
  • Palo dinner now has a fixed price menu plus a la carte, right? Was that introduced after the restart? Yes
  • Are the soft drink and ice cream stations self-serve again? Wonder in June was self-serve drinks and served ice cream. Wish in October was self-serve drink and served ice cream. The Wish is set up with a counter between the guests and the ice cream machines, so it may always be served.

I don't think we had the pirate menu on the 10-10-22 Canada cruise. I wondered why none of MDR staff dressed in pirate gear....I asked about it. Got some silly answer. It was a 6 night cruise.

I heard on that cruise that the muster station would be going back to the old way eventually. I was so happy to actually see all the cm's faces that cruise. So nice to be able to see them and understand them. It was very hard over the noise in the MDR sometimes to hear/understand when wearing masks.

At Palo our server said they are evaluating if the brunch will come back. I almost can't see it happening....it must be such a money saver to not have the buffet in Palo.

That cruise had 2000 guests out of 2800 we were told.

I hope not. Our kids really enjoyed the life boat drill. It's as much a part of cruising as the sail away party and formal night.
