What is so great about the Monorail?

It's better than a bus! It's faster than walking! :)

I hope that the bridge/walkway they are building between the Contemporary and BLT will have some sort of "people mover" on it, if only a conveyor belt like at airports. Otherwise they will have to get lots bigger boats to shuttle all the guests who just want to take the ferry over.

There are no boats from the CR to the MK these days...not for many years actually. But it is a short walk and will be especially so from BLT.

I doubt there will be a moving walkway and certainly not a people mover. It's not far at all from BLT to the CR and I don't think BLT is any further from the tower than the North Wing was and South wing remains. Plus the walk is curved which wouldn't work with a moving walkway, I don't think.

I think guests in BLT will only use that walkway if going to the CR to dine or shop or if going to the monorail to access the other hotels and Epcot. For MK, the buses to DAK, DHS, DTD and water parks and boats to FW and WL, it will be faster and easier to go to the ground floor.

Thanks for the answer on TE's menu.:goodvibes

While I love the monorail, and we make sure to ride at least once on each trip, I think it is vastly overrated as a transportation system. It is really very limited and often overcrowded.

I've never understood the huge longing for a DVC resort on the monorail. For us it's just as easy to catch a bus to wherever we want to go.
I think there will always be some who look down on the buses, simply because they are buses, but to us the WDW buses are still special and we enjoy them.

So I'm really happy for those who now have their monorail DVC resort. While we may stay there once or twice it won't be for the monorail component. It will simply be because we like to try out each of the properties.

When you ride the monorail, is that the Express? It is much more crowded than the resort monorail during most times of the day. For those staying at monorail resorts, it's just a fun and very WDW way to travel.

I don't look down on the buses and actually remember fondly bus drivers at FW in the early 80s. So friendly and fun. Very much into the magic. And when we have had occasion to ride the buses recently, with one exception, drivers have all been courteous and professional. But at the end of the day, it is a bus not something unique like the monorail circling Seven Seas Lagoon.
