hey guys,

i haven't been on here for a little while.

after you have done universal and disney and you fancy something a bit different - is it worth checking out cypress gardens and silver springs.

Are they worth going to for the day?

Thanks,

Julie x

Silver Springs was nice, but it's more of an eco-park type place. It would be a nice relaxing day, but there's nothing majorly exciting about it. Seeing that you are from London and probably want to get a lot into one trip, it might be a nice day out.

I was there a year or so ago and I wouldn't bother going back. That's just my opinion though and others here may love it. All depends on what floats your boat.

We were there in Feb. It is nice for a relaxing day. There are several boat rides you can go on. There is also a safari but it was closed in Feb and also when we were there in 1998! New this year, they will not let you carry in even a small cooler with drinks in it. I would buy a holder for a water bottle and carry drinks in that way. Apparently the Florida Gov't know owns Silver Springs and the prices have increased substantially from what I remember them being in 1998. But it is a very beautiful park if you are into nature.

I have not been to Crypress Gardens since I was a kid so I know nothing about it. All I remember were the beautiful ladies dressed in beautiful gowns walking throughout the park.

florida owns both Cypress Gardens and Silver Springs.

the original owners went bankrupty.

i am not sure whether i should go to one of these parks or not.

Being from England, I would say that yes, you should go to Silver Springs time permitting. The scenery on the boat rides is beautiful and it is a nice way to spend a relaxing day after the hustle and bustle of the major parks.

Before Cypress Gardens or Silver Springs I would check out the following places:

Busch Gardens
Sea World
Weeki Wachee Springs
Homossassa Springs

Cypress Gardens I think I partially owned by the state AND by Kent B????? who also owns Wild Adventures in Valdosta GA. There are really two sections to the park. The old section which has the ladies in the hoop skirts along with a water-ski show and beautiful walking trails to see the beautiful cypress trees and the gardens. There is also a butterfly house. The other side has lots of rides and also now a water park. They don't really have WDW type rides but more of the carnival type rides but lots of them and the crowds are not bad. We went a little over a year ago and they were about to open some other areas as well. Also they have an outdoor arena where they have concerts by pretty popular singers. It is a little less hustle and bustle at this compared to all the ones in Orlando but that can be a good thing!!

I have not been to Silver Springs since 1979 so I don't think I would be much help on that one!! I do remember it being nice and back then they had a petting farm and it also was laid back atmosphere.

Are there animal exhibits at Cypress Gardens?
If so, what can you tell me about them??

Thank you
Suzy

I went there with the family a couple of months ago...was a nice day. Mostly eco-tour stuff. The glass boats are cool and if you are a movie buff then it is very interesting since many movies like one James Bond film, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon were filmed there, as was the original Tarzan.

It is kinda far from Orlando.....there is much to do that is closer to the World.
I haven't seen Cypress Gardens yet..but it is on my list of things to do. THey have a roller coaster and a few other small rides...but mostly is botanical gardens i think.

There is a wonderful botanical garden here in Orlando....Leu Gardens. Very pretty and relaxing. The Orlando Science Center is fun too and nearby. That would be a.) closer....and b.)cheaper and equally entertaining for an "off WDW" day.
