I understand it stands for sleep around points, but what does that actually mean? I know you can book at seven month window outside of home resort but I am confused what might be the benefit of sleep around points. I am waiting for ROFR on a 120 point BLT contract at the moment, if I were to find a small contract elsewhere(lets say 50 SSR points) could I use those points at BLT still as long as they are available? For example, our contract is SEP, if I found another September would i basically have 170 amount of points with both contracts added up each year? And if so could I book at either BLT or SSR at 11 months?

You can only book at other resorts at 7 months out. You could use them both at BLT, but only if that room is available at 7 months.
The value of those points is that they are cheaper than what some specific resort points cost, but the trade off is you never know where you will be able to use them.

So you could book your 120 BLT contract for BLT at 11 months

Your 50 point SSR could be used at SSR 11 months out but can ONLY be used at BLT 7 months out.

So you cant just add the SSR points to the BLT points book at BLT 11 months out using all 170 points.

I own 500 SSR points to use as SAP. I book there at 11 months for my trips when changing will be easier, At 7 months, I move to one of the near park resorts, or just stay there for part of the trip.

I do own RIV and soon BLT for specific times. But for all others, these allowed me to own more points for less....bought them in 2017 for only $73/75 a point.

So if I were to book 11 months out at either BLT or SSR knowing all of the points will be available at the time of stay does that matter? Example, SSR contract at 50, BLT contract at 120, i book a stay at SSR that requires 170 points for october, all 170 should be available for me to use even though all are not for the home resort?

No.

You can only use BLT points to book BLT 11 months out.

No, points don’t change home resorts priority. You can only use SSR at SSR until 7 months out. They will not be good at BLT or any other resort until then,

Same with BLT...only good at BLT until 7 months before,

You would not be able to use all 170 at the same resort at 11 months unless hey are the same resort.

SAP don’t get around home resort, The purpose is to buy them cheap to use at the o5er resorts at 7 months.

SSR point can ONLY be used for SSR 11 months out.

BLT and SSR points can be used at any other resort 7 months out.

At 11 months, you could use the BLT points to book BLT only. At 11 months, you could use the SSR points to book SSR only. So you could book some nights at BLT, and then some nights at SSR at exactly 11 months. At the 7 month mark, you can try to change either of those bookings to any other resort that has availability. So at 7 months, if there is availability at BLT, you can use those 50 SSR points to book additional nights at BLT, or any other resort. Points can only be used at their home resort until the 7 month mark is reached.

Im so confused lol. I thought you could book before points are actually available. I guess ill have to wait to see how this all works if i even pass ROFR. I was thinking that if all the points are available september first between the two contracts and i have a stay after that date then all the points could be used on that stay.

You can book before points become available, but you can still only book 11 months out for home resort and 7 months out for all resorts.

let’s use your example:
120 BLT points
50 SSR points
September UY

let’s just say you have no 2019 points remaining. On 9/1/2020, you would get all 170 points.

now let’s say today you wanted to book a trip at BLT starting 4/10/2021, but you needed, say, 30 points a night. You could book 4 nights (120 points), even though you don’t “have” those points yet, because you have 120 BLT points. You couldn’t book 5 nights at BLT because the trip is 11 months from now, and your remaining 50 points belong to SSR. You’d need to wait until 9/10/2021 - 7 months out - to book the 5th night. However, you could choose to book at SSR if you wanted to switch resorts. Or you could borrow from Sep2021 UY points. I hope that helps clear up the confusion!

Thanks that does help! Only other question I have is could you use "borrowed points" but when the time comes actually switch them to the SSR points and then not use "borrowed" points at all?

Forget when points become available. The Use Year has nothing to do with when you travel. Use year is just WHEN you get your points.

But if your use year is before actual travel dates, then it makes no difference whether you have those points in your account at that point.

I get that, thats why I was asking if I could book a stay for after points become available on both contracts and use them at just one place, but If i cant even book 11 months out for all 170 it wouldnt pay to buy the second contract for the sole reason of saving some money.

You can only replace nights booked during home resorts priority with other points if those nights are still available, Borrowed points never return once borrowed,

So, if you booked 3 nights at BLT and at 7 months, 2 of those nights were still available, you can book them with SSR points, and then cancel the nights you booked with BLT at 11 months,

If nothing is still available at BLT at 7 months, then your SSR points can’t be used to replace what you booked before then,

Again, people buy SAP, not to replace home resort points, but to give them cheaper points in hopes the can trade into other resorts at 7 months,

SAP aren't purchased for 11 month bookings other than possibly booking the home resort as a backup. They also aren't a good option if your goal is to try to book as an extension to other points at a certain resort regularly. If that's what you're wanting then you're better off buying the same resort that you already have. SAP are more to book on their own at whatever you can find at 7 months.

So you might buy SSR and hope to be able to book into a more expensive resort such as GFV, BCV, etc at 7 months. It takes more flexibility on resort, dates, and possibly room size or booking category.

Thank you very much. This is very helpful. I dont even have points on hand and am thinking of other places to stay and if ill need more points. We thought 120 points and going every other year would be good for us, so hopefully 240 points gets us decent stays every two years.

No. Once you borrow them, they remain in the year that they were borrowed. You also cannot switch points in a reservation using home advantage to other points - you’d instead need to book a new reservation with the SSR points.

However, you CAN use those borrowed points first, and then Bank your extra BLT points into the following year.

If you are buying soon, just know that due to the closures, they have changed the borrowing rule. You can only borrow 50% of your points now,

We don’t know how long it will be in place, but i Think we will see it play for about A year or more.

I saw that, thank you. Luckily the contract we signed has 120 banked already so we are ahead of the game I think. There isnt a restriction on banking the points is there? Because we are thinking we'll be in a position where we are banking our points one year and going the next with the double points.
