Hi All!

What exactly is a lock off?

For example what is the difference between a dedicated studio and lock off.

Forgive my ignorance on the subject, I would like info.

TIA
Renee

Hi, Renee. The difference in a lock-off studio is the door that can be opened to the living area of a 1br, making it a 2br.

The second bedroom of a lock-off 2br has many more differences as compared to a dedicated 2br, including a door to the hallway, kitchenette, and possibly different bedding (2 queens vs queen and sleeper sofa).

My explanation is probably clear as mudd, so I hope others can explain better...

At BWV, a dedicated studio has no connecting door and has a small daybed where the door would be. At the other resorts, the only difference between a lockoff and a dedicated studio is that a lockoff has the connecting door (which can allow noise from the attached 1 bedroom to come through easier).

we stayed in a 2 bedroom at the bcv, with one entry door / 2 bedroom had 1 bed and a pull out couch, what type of room was this called:wave2:

Think of being in a hotel and you see a door inside the room. You open the door and you see another door without a handle on your side that can be opened only from the room next door. That is a lock-off arrangement. As long as you have rented only one of those rooms, you cannot get into the room next door. If you rent both, you can open the doors from either side and effectively have two rooms that you can go in and out of from the inside. DVC has many two bedroom lock-offs (at BWV all two bedrooms are lock-off) where there is that lock-ff door arrangement between the one bedroom and the studio. Thus, those rooms can be used as a 2BR or as a separate 1BR and studio. A dedicated 1BR or studio is one that does not have those doors connecting the rooms to another. A dedicated 2BR (which can be found at all except BWV) is one where the second bedroom is a true second bedroom as part of the same apartment and does not have that two-door lock-off arangement between the 1BR and 2d bedroom. A lock-off 2BR will have two entry doors from the outside, one into the 1BR and 1 into the studio. A dedicated 2BR will have only one entry door from the outside.

At OKW, the lock-off studio/2nd bedroom has it's own door to the outside as well as a double locking door to the 1 bedroom portion. The dedicated 2 bedroom units at OKW have a huge walk-in closet where that exterior door would be.

Thanks all for your posts.

I got what a lock off is now. Lightbulb went off in my head.

Why I asked the question is this. We plan on taking the little niece and nephew (plus Mom and Dad of course!) to Disney next year.

If the two bedroom was a "lock off" and not a dedicated two bedroom, the little ones ages 6 and 2 would have a "hallroom door." I would not want them out wandering around.

I think it's best with the little ones this age to request a dedicated two bedroom. If we don't get the request Grandma, Aunt or Uncle, or Mom and Dad will be invited to stay in this room with them.

Thanks all!
Renee

That would be a 2 bedroom dedicated.

At the BC some have 2 beds in the second bedroom and some have the couch/bed combo. Dedicateds only have one outside door to the hallway.

I do know that OKW has the most dedicated 2 bedrooms. At BWV, most are lock-offs, and BCV has some dedicated.

Are there alot of lockoffs at VWL? Do they confirm this is the type of unit you will be getting when the reservation is made? Thanks.:D
