Can someone explain to me what the photopass is and how it works? I assume this is something new since I've been to Disney over 30 times...but missed going last year...just looking for info on my upcoming honeymoon!!!

It's a new system for viewing your pictures. Whenever one of the walk around photographers takes your picture, they will scan the information on a plastic card instead of giving you a paper ticket with a number. You can use the same card all vacation long. The benefit is you don't have to view your pictures at the end of the day, there is a website www.disneyphotopass.com, and you just enter the number on you plastic card and you can view all you pictures, personalize them, and order copies at your own convinence. I think the pics are available up to 60 or 90 days after they are taken, so you don't have to waste your vacation time ordering pictures - you can do it at home.

Of course, if you must, you can view your pictures at the photo shops in the parks, and they are even starting to install kiosks at the resorts to view and order pictures.

Edited to add: Another benefit is you can e-mail the pictures to anyone for FREE :)

We just came back on July 19th. Photopass is fantastic. The photos are only available online for 30 days from the date that the first picture was taken. We purchased one of the photos at MK before we left, it is great, we were posed in front of the castle and they added a border to the photo that has Mickey and Minnie as well as "The Happiest Celebration" across the top. In other pictures they added Tinkerbell into my daughters hand. An 8x10 cost me $18 incl. tax.

They also have photopass at the water parks, but you must buy the photos at the park, they are NOT available online. These photos are less expensive. They give you a bracelet every time they take your picture.

Take advantage of photopass, you are not obligated to buy any of the photos. So, use it every time it's available. You might end up with a fabulous momento of the trip. We did.

So how do you get your card? Is it given to you the first time you get your pictures? This looks like a cool deal to me, can't wait.

Question: How do you get your Card?

Answer: Just like in the past, when you get your picture taken, you would receive a piece of paper with your photo # on it, now, the very first time you take your picture from one of the cast members, you get the photo pass card to use and from that point on you provide it to the cast members when ever you take more photos.
This links all your photos together and it is so cool and easy to use. It looks like a room key or Credit Card.

We loved it! TIP: I took a sharpie marker and wrote our last name on the card, that way I was sure to get our card back instead of someone elses. We also took a picture of the card's number w/ our digital camera incase we lost it.

Hope this helps!

I think you have to seek out the photopass people though b/c we walked right down the middle of main street and never was approached. We actually were never approached during our trip.

"While I am at it this new Photograph package (photopass) that they now offer for resort stays is nothing more than a blatant attempt to sell more photos and a poor substitute for the past option of a free lanyard/pins and is also a poor business decision by Disney. We would always look forward to receiving the pins and would take advantage of a free round of putt-putt that was also one of the options. I know, I know...giving away the pins and the lanyard was also a blatant attempt to sell more pins (which worked by the way) but here's the difference. How many people bring cameras when they come to WDW? How many places sell those disposable cameras? I would bet almost every family that goes there brings a camera. You even see small kids with cameras and now we even have phones with cameras on them. Why then would you want to compete with this by trying to sell more photos? That is why it is also a bad business decision by them. Plus when I am going through the parks I don't believe that people like being pestered about getting their picture taken. I know I don't.

I'm quite looking forward to being pestered. :teeth: I'm making a solo trip. I'm sure I'll be able to find kind folks to take pictures of me but it will be nice to have other photos without bugging people. I'm guessing the park photographers have had some training and know which backgrounds make the best pictures. It's not for everyone but it will be for me. I don't think it's any different than the park pictures offered before although I understand there are more photographers out. The photographers were never intrusive after being told I wasn't interested in a photo. I'm sure lots of families will want a picture where everyone is in the shot. I could never see the photos clearly up on the overhead monitors so I quit having them taken. I can't wait to be able to thumb through the photos when I get home and pick the best ones to order. I bet WDW is selling more pictures than they did in the past. I mean, once people return from their trip don't you think people will be unable to resist buying that adorable picture of their son or daughter with Mickey.
