Photopass is a plastic card you are giving (usually by the photographer) and it can be loaded with as many pics that you get taken around the parks as you want. They are then down loaded and you can view them online. Thus saving standing in line as you are trying to exit the park.
We have used it twice and loved it. But remember thereis always the chance that your pictures don't turn out. It is wise to get numerous pictures taken by a variety of photographers...
DVC did have a 50% discount for members but I believe it ended on April 30. Annual Pass holders I believe have a discount until May 31.
Thanks Zurg's Wife. I have an AP so maybe I can use it. Do you hand them the plastic card before they take the photo?? Can you review them while at WDW so if they're not good you can retake?? Is it very expensive??

Yes, you can give them your plastic photopass card before the photos are taken, or they will be glad to take photos of you and give you a new photopass card. (One day we went to the parks and didn't take our first photopass card and ended up with two or three from that day).
I believe you can review them later that same day, but we typically don't check them until after we return.
I believe another posted that the discount for this for DVC member is 50% off. So that's a pretty good deal. I didn't get this paper in my welcome home package, though, as I've heard others have.
We did get the DVC member special offer last week. Our welcome kit at the resort included a bright yellow envelope with a pink PhotoPass card and letter explaining the discount. Through 5/31/05, using this special card entitles us to a 50% discount off of up to (4) 5"x7" prints.
If nothing else PhotoPass is a great way to share your trip photos with family and friends. Just about every location with a Disney Photographer allows you to use PhotoPass. Park icons...character greets...those sorts of places. You can have the Disney photographers take your photo dozens of times throughout your trip. All of those photos will be viewable in your album on the Internet. You can send a link to family and friends to instantly share your trip with them at zero cost. About the only thing you cannot do is download the photos and print them yourself. The images displayed on the web are very low resolution, and it's really not practical to get prints without paying for them. But it's still a free on-line photo album if you wish to view it that way.

Just to clarify, the photopass card itself is NOT a photo card. It does not store the actual photo on it. It is an I.D. card with a number.
The photographer scans the card (much like a credit card is scanned), then takes the photos. All the photos are digital and are saved in Disney's computer systems with the your photopass number. Disney loads the photos onto their servers usually by the end of the day.
You can then go on-line and using your photopass I.D. log onto the site and view your photos. You can also place any orders you'd like.
The website is controlled and disables your computer's download capability for photos while viewing their pages, so you cannot just right click and select the "Save Photo As" option and download the image to your computer. You could do a simple "print screen" but what you get would be terrible. Also the photos when being viewed have a watermark on them.
Photo's are automatically deleted from their server after about 6-months so if you don't order them within that timeframe, you lose them permanently.
