I have heard great things about Uber as a more reasonable than taxi option. Great for resort to resort, early breakfast adr, etc. I am afraid to count it in my plans as their status seems uncertain. Anbody have recent experience, hear any recent news? Find an easy way to use them from airport area? Good or bad experiences? Ill be there in early November and really want to try them!

My family and I used them exclusively in the first 2 weeks of June, they were excellent. We saved a lot of money with them and they were quick, efficient and courteous. I would recommend them to anyone and would use them again without a second thought. Also if you use their web app the first ride is free. Just remember just like a cab if you don't feel comfortable with a driver request someone else, but I had no issues with any of the drivers I used and used them about 15 times the whole trip. Like you I had never used them and they aren't prevalent yet in my area, New Orleans, but we took a chance and really liked the versatility and cost efficiency. From Pop century to Universal was 22.00 for 4 of us vs. 48 in a cab one way.

Interesting, if I use their web app and my first ride is from the airport to the resort would that be free? Doesn't seem likely but maybe a discount or something. Do they charge per person or just by distance and/or time? Do you tip?

I thought that I read on these boards that Uber CANNOT pick you up at the airport, but CAN drop off from resort to airport??:confused3:confused3

At present they aren't able to pick up from airport. If you google uber coupons they have a 30.00 of coupon and a few others now.

At present that is correct. I used magical express to and from airport and use Uber for trips from Disney to universal and also for groceries and the outlets. We used the app and pickup was always within 10 minutes, vehicles clean and newer, and also very courteous. My biggest pro was you know the rate before you confirm pickup and tip is included and no cash whatsoever is exchanged.

The drivers also work on a rating system, if they aren't up to your standards refuse ride rate them anonymously and book another trip. It was 5.00 from downtown Disney to Pop. Between 6-7 to outlets. 22.00 and change from Pop to Universal. I looked in my app and didn't see the charge for the trip to target but it was also inexpensive. All those charges included tip. They also have uberx which uses economy cars and is a little less expensive and uber xl which is a little more. We didn't try those services at the time though. Another good thing while using the app you also get a picture of the driver, plate number and driver cell. If something is forgotten in car you can contact driver directly.

I prefer Uber and plan on using them on my upcoming trip. Some people really dislike Uber, but I have found most of those people have never used the service, just read the Uber hate stories.

As previous posters have stated you would not be able to use them from MCO to any of the resorts since they are not allowed to pick up at the airport. But you can use them from your resort back to the airport and all around Orlando. The coupon code gives you $30 off your first ride, but you have to put the code in when you register for the service so make sure you have one. You can find them all over the web, just Google it.

Have fun!

How about using Uber from one resort to another? Like from Boardwalk to Polynesian? Are there any issues there?

I read that the tip included thing changed!! They do expect a tip. I think the wording changed on Uber site as well

I have heard of people using a work around to get from the airport.. walking to the airport hotel and getting pickup there. Anybody have experience with that?

The app automatically adds tip. You can adjust your preferred tip amount on the app.

I wouldn't think the tip thing would change, as uber is all cashless. Everything is run off the app from booking to paying. That's part of the convenience of it. I'm really looking forward to trying them out in November! My free ride is already showing in the app!

Hmmm either an uber driver forum or some complaint in court by drivers. Maybe the app letting you add a tip is the new part?
No the tipping part of the app has always been there, if they are looking for a tip then they are in error. One of the main advertised advantages of uber is a cashless system. Or the driver is purposely hoping the rider is naive.

Thanks everyone, this is all really good info and much appreciated.
