I think it is important to make sure folks know that there are differences between MiceAge (the "News" reporting site) that covers Disney World-Wide and ALL divisions of Disney, not just the Theme Parks, and MiceChat, the "social" discussion boards.

I am VERY lucky to work with folks like Werner Weiss, Chuck Oberleitner, Kevin Yee, Sue Kruse, Al Lutz and Steve DeGaetano. I have met all of them (and I wish that David Koenig would come join us, to bring the "team" back together). Over the last decade, I have provided content to many different Disney related Websites, plus other sites that cover Theme/Amusement Parks overall. It is amazing that I have had the chance to turn my "hobby" (Roller Coaster Geek) into a second job, which has become more of a First and a half job. :scared1:

I am truly blessed to have a Fiancee that loves me and puts up with me  She TRULY is the love of my life.... We went to Disneyland today, and someone brought up the "11 Coasters in 11 Hours" challenge we did in 2006...

http://darkbeer.smugmug.com/gallery/1553962_EuVnj

I still can't beleive we ended up doing it in JUST under 11 hours (10 hours and 57 minutes).

I am lucky enough to be able to go to Theme/Amusement Parks on a regular basis, and also happy to be able to share those trips with all of you! :happytv:

Enough of the "glowing"... Once again, THANKS to all of you who spoke kind words... Lisa and I appreciate it....:thumbsup2

As for Post #21...

GO DUCKS!!!!!!

I know some "Theme Park Geeks" give me grief about my animal shots, but I do place them at the END of my article, and if you don't like them... TOO BAD! :lmao:

I am still surprised that I have Ducks (mainly at Knott's) that know my voice... And yes, it is interesting to go through Security checks and they ask you about the Cheerios and Bread (Whole Grain Goodness).....:rotfl2:

I love your photos and the ducks and animals. The animals are part of the parks and are part of the fun of any park. If you ever see me in DLR wave. Fat older lady with a big over decorated Lark scooter.

Keep up what you do as you are doing it right.:thumbsup2

LOVE the DUCKS!...that was my salute to your articles "In the Parks" ... I had to find a cute duck to END my post ...jc

I remember the 11 coasters in 11 hours!!! that was a fun read. :woohoo:
I to also love to see the cats, and the ducks in your reports. I also read your posts in other bards and yes, I wish all the crew was back together again!
And yes, I hear Lisa is wonderful to you and a blessing to you. Im so glad you both have so much in common.
I think as you have been on these boards a long time and have done so much work on them you now need your own board!! Im betting it would be awesome.
oh and I wish I was at the park as much as you :lmao::lmao:

The 11 Coaster thing was amazing, the original plan was 10 coasters in one day, but the San Diego County Fair opened, and worked with the schedule (we picked the first "full" Summer Saturday to get the longest hours)...

And heck, we got a chance to have a beer at DCA, and Lisa had to go to First Aid at LEGOLAND....

There was a LOT of planning to make it work, but the funny thing, it started off as a joke while we were in line at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

As for my own board, don't plan on it... I have worked for MANY different Disney-related websites, but have found a home I am very happy with, and based on my co-workers, not going anywhere.... (Heck, Al Lutz will be my Best Man):3dglasses

I do admit, it is scary that I am about as well known as the Mayor of Anaheim (and he has made a joke about it)....

I post occasionally over on micechat as well as here and mousepad. I probably post less on micechat than the others only because it seems like it's more of a locals board...but I have never hesitated to jump in. People seem really friendly and kind as far as I have seen :)

Darkbeer, great to see you over here now too! I've seen you a couple of times at DL and DCA but held back from saying "hi" as to not appear too stalker-ish LOL

I head to miceage every thursday for my fix, but never venture onto micechat. I also read mouseplanet, JimHill media, Screamscape, and Blue sky Disney. It's a big tent and we each do something best. Some times authors lose the perspective that opinions are personal and everyone has one....and instead report their opinion as universal(not personal) truth.Ultimately it is their site! I gladly exchange free content for their opportunity to have a "bully pulpit".

Darkbeer, thanks for knowing your ducks from your geese! you did a good job showing the difference last update!

Good to see you over here Darkbeer!! I enjoy Reading your Post's on Miceage/Michchat and Laughing Place, and Love Looking at all of your Pics!!! When I first started reading at Laughing Place a couple years ago, all I wanted to do is see your Updated Pics of the Parks!

Congrats with you and your Fiancee!

TheParsec!

WOW, this post got me to register (I am a lurker over here, showing up about once a month). I think you got MiceAge/MiceChat figured out for the most part...

Hi Darkbeer!:yay: Welcome! :cheer2:I'm so glad you posted and that I didn't totally get it wrong about Miceage/Micechat! :worship: I've been following you and reading your advice for many years now. I appreciate all your photo updates and especially the Joys of Fastpass updates! :woohoo:

I find micechat boring since you have to pay to go into the forums further. I guess they have clubs and lounges and so forth, but I believe you have to pay 15.00 a year, not bad but you have to use a credit card or paypal. I will never do my credit card on a forum site, and I do not have paypal and they will not except any other form of payment. I guess its not bad when your gold, but other wise its pretty boring in the main boards. mostly games people make up and talk about make up :lmao: Some of the disney threads are good, if there not arguing about what they like or dislike and then the threads go to pot.
I may have tried the gold if I could have sent a money order, just to see how it is and look at the clubs and private erea's. I imagine lots of folks out there would go gold if they could send another form of payment.

I joined MiceChat in 2005, when I was researching my trip to Disneyland for the 50th Anniversary. I was new to the internet at that time, and had just recently begun posting on DisBoards. Quite frankly, I found out more about Disneyland from MiceChat, than I did here at the DisBoards, so I began posting there more than here. I credit MiceChat for the fantastic time that I had on my very first trip to Disneyland. I have since been back 3 more times, and yes, I have met many MiceChatters during my trips to Disneyland. MiceChat is not just a message board, it is indeed an online community.

Yes, some of those people can really be intimidating. However, I have made a lot of friends there, and it has become a wonderful part of my life.

I still come to the DisBoards for WDW information. However, for my Disneyland info, I trust the information that I receive at MiceChat.

You go where your comfortable as we all do. :) Im more comfortable here. There is a ton of info to be had, great and friendly people and they answer your questions so fast !!
As far as a community, thats what is here also, and if you read thru, there are people who meet all the time and even go on vacations to the park and other places together in large groups.Im so glad you have a home on micechat, sounds like you are well acquainted with those folks and that's awesome. everyone needs a place to fit in, looks like you fit in there well. :)

I would argue that the DLR section on the DIS boards is one of the tightest knit communities on the DIS. We all know the main posters, people plan meets and trips, and everyone is very friendly. MiceAge is good for DLR updates and stuff that's happening around the resort. The DIS is good for trip planning.

So I ventured over there to try and see if I could get some review of the new fireworks show last night. Wow....complaints after complaints. Not many people liked it and many had very nitpicky things to say. So I come to the DIS this morning and there's a thread with everyone saying how amazing it was and how it's a good show. Just noticing :)

It does seem that critical people are more vocal. I for one posted my delight in the new fireworks. I was impressed with the fact that two MiceChatters had posted their videos on MiceChat very shortly after seeing the dress rehearsal the other night. So, I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to see Dumbo fly from the comfort, of my living room, and it was indeed magical. Not all comments posted on MiceChat were negative, just as not all comments posted here will be rave reviews. It just doesn't work that way. I feel everyone should be able to post their opinion either way, as long as they uphold the rules of the site that they are on.

It's like anything else. You can't please all the people all the the time. I think that some people post negative comments just for the shock effect, or is that affect?

It does seem that we have strayed a bit from the topic of What is MiceChat? It is another Disney Message board. Not as big, as the DisBoards, and definitely not around as long as the DisBoards have been here.

I am curious. Just how long have the DisBoards been here? I see that they have about 10 times the members that MiceChat have. MiceChat is more centered around talk of Disneyland, and the Disboards is more centered on Walt Disney World.

I think the Disneyland threads here are huge, never had a problem getting extremely helpful info. But you are right, everyone has the right to there opinions, and not always going to agree . I do enjoy the DCA project tracker, and of course Dave's ( Darkbeers) park updates.Hence the reason I go over there once a week :) there is some valuable info over there, sometimes the snarky Answers do seem to ruin ones posts and threads, but I see they now have a way to vote if the info was helpful or not. It may cut down on those with " shock value posts" Maybe they need to add this feature to more threads then just the Disneyland ones.
That is if they take the time to actually monitor the bad posts and non helpful ( snarky) answers.
Like here I am sure there are very nice people on micechat, in fact I know a few over there who are wonderful people, and I plan to meet a few on my visit soon, along with a few people from here.
I think one can get info from any site out there today, but people choose there " homes" and this will be mine :) as Micechat is yours :)
Thank you Barbarann for posting and letting us know what you like about micechat :)
