It occurred to me that when people go on vacation they might spend money on a new pair of shoes, clothes, etc.

It would be nice to know what companies still have US manufacturing locations.

I want to purchase a new sneakers, I have no brand preference and would be willing to try a brand that is produced here in the US. I just read in a book that New Balance has a factory in Norridgewick, Maine. Their website has no reference to their factory in Maine.

Not looking to start any kind of debate, I am just trying to help my fellow Americans! Buy American!

Oh its tough! No joking my FIL will only accpet gifts with the made in the USA marking. It is horrible I tried every major department stores and small ones too, to no avail. After all that DH said stop stressing yourself (and its a real education to see where things are in fact made and sad too) just get him some gift cards to gas stations, his favorite restaurant and the cahin pharmacy he uses, so I did.

I am sad to say I don't have anything to give you but would love to hear if someone does FIll birthday is coming......:guilty: :confused3

This has been one of my pet peeves with Epcot.
When you go to World showcase you can purchase all kinds of items from the respective countries. In london teas & china, Italy- perfumes, Mexico, China, Paris... all these countries have stuff from the country. You get to the American Pavillion and Nothing, nada, zipp. All junk from China. You mean Disney couldn't find one mom and pop business to crank out some type of souvie?

I never thought about the American Pavillion that way, but you are so right. In 2007 I bought my DH an ceramic eagle with an American flag. I just checked--sure enough it has a "Made in China" sticker on the bottom. Honestly, it did not even occur to me when I purchased it that it was not made in the US. My DH is so patriotic--I knew he would love the eagle.

Would it make a difference to send a letter/e-mail to Disney? It would probably just be overlooked. When I visit in June, I will be sure to ask the CM's "What is actually from the US?"

Thanks to everyone for the links.

I remember last summer when we were in the Norway pavillion, walking by the troll they had a display of christmas ornaments, trolls and what not. Normally wouldn't have caught my attention -except- the big sticker on one of them "made in China". So I wouldn't count on things from other countries in Epcot nessicarily being manufactured in that country either.

And when you do buy something made in USA - it may just be put together here with parts made in other countries. I remember a few years ago when Levi's jeans shut down their last USA plant. Appearantly it was the last 'well known American brand' that was still made wholey in the US, so it was in the news a bit.

I remember reading that there is a city in Japan that actually re-named itself
USA and dozens of Japanese companies flocked there so they could label their products "made in USA" I suppose if it says "made in THE usa" it is safe?? Oh well, I think the only things we really make here is credit cards, and we print lots of money.

DH and I also try to buy american made but it is hard. Last week we went to three different stores and looked at every pot and pan set they had and nothing was "actually" american made. We were determined to not by anything that said made in China so we settled for made in Thailand, LOL. My grandma forwarded me an e-mail last summer that said, "Buy American, shop at yard sales" isn't that the truth. It's really sad.

For pots & pans, try All Clad. They are made in Cannonsburg, PA. Yes, I know they are expensive, but they do have a seconds sale twice a year. Amazing deals! I have pots & pans I would never have thought to buy. I think the seconds sales are in December & June or July. If you email the factory, they will tell you when.

I did (and still do when I visit) send an email and some times at the end of my trips I will ask the front desk if they have any customer cards (some times they do). I know it's not a really big complaint on the grand scale of things. It just seems so ironic to purchase a shirt with the American flag made in Tiawan or China.

Great thread! I bought a pair of New Balance shoes because of this reason and I really like them. They have held up very well. They are over a year old and still look and feel really nice.

Bumping to the top ~ Took DH to the mall today ~ he was kicking and screaming :lmao: but even he was shocked to see so much made in china, sigh.

Starting to look for Easter treats for the kids and parents ect; any ideas of something made here, other than chocolate? Altho thats a good start! :rotfl:

I opened a package of Playtex sippy cups the other day and noticed they said Made In USA. :thumbsup2

Just bought a GM vehicle! Considered foreign, but my loyalties are to the US and ended up with a Yukon. ;) I really try to buy American as much as possible.
One thing I noticed is that seafood from America is hard to find in the supermarket. Some have American names, but if you read the fine print it is from China! Who knew "Bernard's" crawfish was from China??!!!:confused3
