I see it talked about on here but don't know what it is. Thanks

It's a shop where your child can get a glamorous makeover. You can have your little girl get a princess 'do and so forth. They get to choose items to take with them, like lip glosses and such. They have things like stuffed pets with little crates to carry them in that come with various accessories. There are makeups, scents, etc for kids.

You may be able to read my distaste for the place in my wording, though I was trying to remain neutral. Some people love it and their kids have a fun time. I think it's another step in the wrong direction, particularly in regard to girls.

It's basically a glorified Claire's (if you know what that is). They sell styling accessories, hair stuff, nail stuff, etc. They do really cute (overpriced) makeovers for young girls too.

My daughters adore the place. Me, not so much. It's incredibly loud and they play lots of Hannah Montana type music. It's a young girls dream store. :lmao:

ETA- I do agree with Dizme as far as it kinda being in the wrong directions. They put a lot of makeup on the girls for the makeovers. I've never gotten my girls a makeover there (too cheap), but was trying to get them an appointment for when we were at DLR for one. I would have requested no makeup. IMO a 6 yo has no business wearing eye makeup and lipstick.

Thanks, I thought it must be something like that. My girls are older but last time we went with dgd and ddil we stopped at Claires at the mall on the way and bought tiara to wear while we were there it was pretty fun. People kept stopping to ask us where we got them. I think they were under ten dollars each. dgd wore hers until she got her ears.

I agree about the makeup, its a bit much for children. I think having a princess hairstyle would be fun for them though. I wonder if you can request hair only and the price would be different? If not, I think I'd just bring my own glitter and bows and do their hair myself. :)

The price does not change. Sort of a bummer, really.

I always bring my own glitter anyway. We call it pixie dust. :) I spray the girls down (5 & 6) and they love it! We usually get asked about the glitter multiple times a day. :goodvibes I think that's what I"m going to end up doing this time. Just save the $60 for their makeovers and just try to do something myself. I'm not very handy with the cool updo's though.

A mom after my own heart! :thumbsup2

Do you have a Dollar Tree or dollar stores near you? Right now there are lots of little clip-in falls in a rainbow of colors for Halloween. My teenage daughter bought a bunch! They have them at Claire's too, but they are about $4-5 each there.

Hmm?? I happen to think it is alot of fun.

Everytime that I have taken my DD, they have just done the hair and tiara, fingernails, and a couple of rhinestones on the cheekbone. So you take your DD into LibbyLu, and she comes out looking like a princess for her day at DL.princess: Is there something so wrong with that? And she receives a cute little tote, that she gets to fill with glitter, bows, cute mirrrors, barrettes, lipgloss, or whatever she chooses. Every little girl that I have seen come out of there, looks absolutely adorable, and the smiles on their faces tell the whole story. :cloud9:

Even if it was full blown make-up, what does it hurt for one day? :confused3 Or if she choose the Hannah Montanna makeover?

When I was a little girl, I loved to dress up for fun. I was always into my older sister's makeup, and hairstuff. (She would get mad.)  Sometimes when she was feeling generous, she would give my friends and I makeovers. We loved it and felt so glamorous. We would walk around like movie stars for the day. :cool2: Was that so bad, and different from a make over today from Libby Lu's?

I was worried about the make up, mainly due to it affecting her skin, until I really saw what was there. They get a light pink lipglass and a very pastel colored eye shadow. I couldn't even really see a color, more like a shimmer. And very light nail polish.
DD loves it and we all love watching her do it. She is smiley and it's something "special" just for her. The only other times she ever wears makeup is Halloween and for dance performances.

I certainly understand giving a little girl a "special" moment and the fun of dressing up/getting pretty. But I believe LL as a company goes beyond the innocence of dress-up and into a shadier realm, which I prefer not to endorse.

My dislike for LL is not about the princess makeovers. It is the company itself I find distasteful for promoting images for little girls (preschool-12) that are unhealthy, IMO. The birthday parties, for example, often include makeovers heavy on makeup, glitzy costumes, and attitude. The little "purse pets" and many of the accessories are meant to mimic such role models as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Girls are taught to "shake it," "wet your lips and smile for the camera," and pose in suggestive ways. I can't bear the thought of a 3-year-old in a tube top, low rise glitter pants, pouffed up hair and full makeup, licking her lips for the camera while she poses with one hip jutted out and an arm flung into the air.

At DTD LL, my dds enjoy seeing the girls inside getting their hair done, nails polished, and little diamonds stuck to their cheeks. For the most part, I think it looks like fun and we do many of those things in our hotel room. But I won't support a franchise that, as a whole, makes money off of encouraging vulnerable girls to embrace a self-image that revolves around "enhancing" your looks for sex appeal and evincing attitude. It's reinforcing the idea that those are the important things for girls rather than abilities and heart.
