Don't know if I have the name right, I have seen it in several post and I think I get the idea, I just would like to know more about this?

If both parents want to go on a ride, they don't have to wait in line twice. One can go on then when they come off the ride, the other can take the child and then the 2nd parent can go on.I think that's what your looking for.

although, I'm sure there are times when most parents wish that the "child swap" system was one where they take their child to some central location and come home with a new one ;)

We did a child/baby swap on Mission Space. When I went up to the CM they gave me a Fastpast that did not expire. Worked out OK for us!

If your kid is giving you a hard time on a vacation you spent thousands of dollars on you can get to the front of your favorite ride and swap them for a more pleasant, grateful child. :duck:

Unfortunately, all the more pleasant children are usually kept by their parents. So most likely you will just get another child who is being obnoxious. ;)

Most rides if not all rides have the child swap. For SM you do get a non-exp fast pass however on some rides you step to the side so as soon as parent #1 gets off, parent #2 gets on. This also allows older siblings to ride twice.
Example: DH and DS7 get on Kali River Rapids, I step to the side w/ DD2. Ride is over DH gets off and takes DD2; I step on DS7 stays where he is at.
I love this system so that DH is not hogging all the fun. :goodvibes

I hate the current Baby Swap system. On the major rides, if your child is not tall enough to ride, then they can't wait in line with you. The parents have to split up and one wait in line alone while the other waits alone with the child. After the ride you get a fast pass for the other to go back in.

The old way where you could all wait together and then just swap out was much better on the parents.

:) this is exactly why we do like it - because the child who isn't tall enough dosen't have to wait a line for something he/she cant ride. So while the old way may have been better for the parents the new way is IMHO better for the kids!! Why make them wait a long line for something they are not able to do?

To avoid a long line alone just use Fast Pass for the first parent. Everyone approach the CM for a rider swap ticket and then the first parent rides using the FP line. Shouldn't be a long wait at all.

Meanwhile the other parent and child can now do something fun rather than waiting in line. Take in another ride or show, get an ice cream, play or meet characters. Meet up at a designated time and then the second parent can ride, again using the FP line while the parent who already rode does something fun with the child.

We love it.

Rider switch, baby swap etc - wonderful for families!

Here is my attempt at an explanation:

First, my advice is to always check with a CM at the ride you are interested in using swap for before you stand in line, (fastpass, single or standby). Tell them you want to baby swap (rider switch) and see how they want to handle it. Nobody wants to stand in line only to find out baby swap isn't offered or they handle it differently.

Even if you rode the ride yesterday using the baby swap I would still ask again today because different cm's sometimes handle it different ways. It varies from attraction to attraction and even from day to day but IMHO it always works well.

In my experience only rides with a height restriction offer rider switch and only if you have the child who dosen't meet the requirement with you. We made the mistake once of sending my sil and dear neice for an ice cream before asking about the swap pass only to be asked where the "baby" was!. So be sure to get the pass before you send the other half off to the meeting spot.

The most common way to do the switch when a child is to small to ride is to give you a rider swap ticket for the second parent to use later the same day for that attraction only. It works like a Fast Pass but for up to three people and with no time limit. A very few rides have you wait at the exit and switch with the other party but most rides now use the rider swap ticket. (I think Star Tours still does it this way.)

I prefer the rider swap ticket as we didn't have to entertain toddlers in line for an attraction they couldn't ride. Instead we went for ice cream, to see a show, change a diaper - you get the point, while the other party rides. Then later in the day the other parent rides while the parent who rode first entertains baby.

If a child is tall enough to ride but chooses not to you will all need to wait the line and switch at the exit. In this case using a fast pass works better!

Clear as mud?
