Hi: What is january and the first two weeks feb like at wdw, weather wise and crowds?

Deb.

I went the first week in January several years ago. We were lucky enough to have weather in the 80's, but that it not always the case. I've heard that it can be anywhere from the 30's to the 80's, so it's hard to plan. The only thing that I would caution you to avoid is the week of the marathon. We didn't do our homework ahead of time and were there for the WDW marathon, along with all the runners and their families. It's usually the first weekend in January. The crowds were moderate, but if you're looking for a time with light crowds, I think you could go one of the other three weeks in January or sometime in February (obviously not President's week) and have signifigantly smaller crowds. Another problem that we had on the actual day of the marathon was that the bus system was completely rerouted so as not to cross the marathon path. It took us an hour and a half to get from the CBR to the MK as a result.

We were there the first of February this year and almost froze! I had brought cashmere sweaters and wound up wearing them with a hoodie or a fleece vest and a jacket over them! :cold:

It's wonderful crowd wise for sure. It can be chilly at night so dress warm. Especially for Fantasmic!

My husband and I were married in WDW almost four years ago (Jan 26) and have gone back every year for our anniversary. January/Feb weather is really unpredictable, last years though was the coldest of all 4 years, it is not always like that.

When we where Married in 2002, we almost wore shorts the entire time! It was highs in the 70' and low 80's! People wore short sleeve shirts and capris for our illuminations party. That was very untypical though.

Usually the highs will be in the 60's so if you bring pants, sweaters and a few of a wide range of items (jackets, short sleeve shirts) and also watch the weather down in Orlando before you go you will be fine. They key to this time in Florida is layering and being prepared! :)

There are all sorts of pluses to going during this time of year too, its not near as crowded, but avoid holiday weekends. Prices are a whole lot lower too, as far as room rates as it is value season.

Have Fun!

We went in Feb 05 we arrived on the 6th and the weather during the day all week was great. Night time was cool and we used sweat shirts but most of the days we used shorts. Now up here in Canada if the weather was like that we'd likely be wearing light pants but being in the winter and having no snow around we have to take the opportunity and run with it. The year before that we went the 2nd last week in Janurary and found it much cooler and we wore sweat shirts during the day the whole time.
Hope this helps.

DH and I went the second week of Jan. about 6 years ago and there was a record cold snap, like 30 degrees during the day. Too cold and windy to be out much at night. We had driven down from MD and brought all of our cold weather gear in case we hit snow on the drive home. We loved it! No lines for any rides -- ran through qeueing areas. We did end up leaving a half day early in order to get home before another storm hit the coast -- had 12-18" of snow in our driveway from our vacation.

Now, with young kids, we're going back in Jan./Feb. and I'm aiming for early Feb. instead of Jan., hoping to get somewhat warmer weather rather than colder.

Wow, sounds like it is hit or miss. My hubby likes it warm enough to swim, i like the low 70's. So I guess jan/feb is out. But thanks to all who responded.

I went the first week of February 2003 and 2004. We were at parks from opening to closing every day. We wore tshirts every day and never once wore a coat either year. I know 2004 we went swimming on two days since it was warm/sunny after getting back from the parks that closed early. I would say it got down to the 50s over night and went to the low 80s. It was wonderful since we left after a northeaster in Boston one year and arrived home to 2 feet of snow the other year. This year we are going the second week of January and hoping though not expecting similiar weather. We have a friend coming with us who is taking college classes or we would stick to the first week of Feb. We never waited to get on a single ride over 10 minutes including Mission Space which was new (well dh did I skipped it) but almost every thing was a walk on. Fantasy land does built up lines in the afternoon but we did it early in the day with no lines.

2nd week of February can run into Daytona & Pres Day weekend crowds - I will avoid this weekend in the future, experienced near gridlock in MK on Pres Day.

We had great weather...high 70's (few days in low 80's, one day in mid 60's), no rain over 10 day period. Seemed balmy to us :sunny: we swam after 8:00 p.m. on several nights and were very comfortable - think they turn the heat up.
