I had the usual experience today behind a check writer.

It seems that ALL check writers wait until they get the total amount before searching through their purse to find their checkbook. Then after writing the check -which seems to take forever - they have to be reminded to show their drivers license (and/or check writing card).

If you know you're paying by check, why can't you be ready. Is that too much to ask.

You have obviously never been in line behind me. I'm way faster writing a check than the yahoo with the debit card who can't enter their PIN correctly and whoops--they forgot they needed $20 back and oh, yeah, which button do I push now?

Slow check writers and incompetent debit/credit card people all annoy me. There are some people that should just stick to cash, I think. ;)

It's kind of like the people who in Dunkin Donuts have to use debit or credit cards - have it run through the machine, punch in code, wait to pop out receipt, sign receipt.

Cash in hand, buy coffee - much quicker. (completely opposite of commercial).

:rotfl: yes, us check writers are so 1980's. I write a check in the grocery store but I always have everything ready. I must say, it's more frustrating to be behind the person with 10,000 coupons..9,000 of which are expired:rolleyes: or the person who can't remember their pin number:rolleyes:

I'm sorry, that must have been my MIL in front of you!:rotfl: She refuses to get a debit card- too "confusing" for her:confused3/ Takes her forever to dig to the bottom of her overfilled purse and find the check book and then she won't just let the machine do it, she wants to write it all out! I told her even my 84 yo grandma lets the machine "write the check"! MIL then has to write it down in the register so she doesn't forget! ( all while still standing at the check out):lmao:

It's like the family of 5 in front of you at Pecos Bills that doesn't start deciding what they want until they get to the CM to place their order.

C'mon, people--a little situational awareness, please. :sad2:

I love the people that have to dig through their purse or all their pockets for that last penny of exact change!!!

;)Gheesh, have you no patience?????.....irritated you had to wait for a late kid/parent, irritated with the 4th grade girls (BTW that was the best thread in a long long time:worship:) and now you have an issue with us check writers! Get a life would you............... ;) ;) :goodvibes

exactly. I write a check in the grocery store too. I use my card everywhere else but groceries is the check for some reason. I have it all filled out except for the total and as the cashier is scanning my coupons I fill in the amount. I get cash back so I just write for about 20.00 over what I estimate my total will come down to.

I always seem to get behind the person that is paying cash but doesn't have it out, so they have to get out the wallet and then wait while they find the exact amount..and and I know I have a couple pennies in my purse somewhere.

I can't believe people are complaining about the time it takes to write a check:sad2::sad2::sad2: Must be a slow day today

Irritated is not the correct word. Overwhelmed would be a better description.

Oh I hear you. Why don't they just get a debit card? It's the same.exact.thing.

I think there should be a rule that if you are a couponer, and that's FINE and I get that it saves you a bunch of money. But PLEASE have your coupons out, visible, so I can see them before I decide to get in that line. Just hold them in your hand or whatever. That way I know to AVOID that line. Because scanning coupons takes a lot of time (especially the beeps..and the "Did you buy two of this?" "Ok, show me.."" type scenarios). Ugh. I would rather be behind the check writer than a couponer.

I write checks, and fast too. I will say, if someone starts sighing heavily behind me or making smart comments, I take my sweet, sweet time.

My experience for myself paying and others paying in line is usually this:

CC and DC-fastest
Cash-slower
Check-always slowest.

I can't understand why people write checks instead of using plastic. I don't think I have ever been in back of someone who wrote a check that was fast at all. They usually just take their time. (and no, I do not stamp my feet or {{sigh}}. JMO.

:thumbsup2 yep, if you are in that big of a hurry, stay home and order online. Same thing when I am digging for that change, get over your impatient self

You would hate me. Not only do I write a check but I also use coupons. Your not in Florida are you?

Another fast check writer here - although I rarely use them in stores anymore.. I usually have them made out to the store before I even go inside -then just fill in the amount and sign my name when I know what my total is.. Check and ID are in hand before my items are rung up.. Takes far less time then some of the other scenarios posted here..

Also - when I have coupons, I place them on top of the items as I place them on the conveyor belt.. :goodvibes

When I worked in retail, I once had a husband/wife come to my line that actually argued back and forth for several minutes over which checkbook they were going to use. With a long line of customers behind them they were going back and forth, "Should we use the red checkbook?" "No, use the blue one here" Someone in the line finally yelled, "Just pick a damn color":rotfl2:
