What is it about Disney that keeps you coming back?

I'm planning a trip down from Canadaland for September of 2018, and also comparing the price to places I've never been. (Rome, London, New York, etc) and a thought struck me. I've been to Disney 11 times, and yet it's still in my top 5 destinations to travel to. what is it about Disney that once you've been you keep wanting / 'needing' to come back?

Is it just because it's an easy trip to plan? A very convincing marketing strategy? societal & peer pressures? The Atmosphere? Mass Hypnosis? Aliens?

Why do we keep going back? What makes disney different from other large theme parks?

I was asked this same question by a coworker recently. I always tell people that Disney is like Vegas for families. Our child is happy with the rides, theming and characters and my wife and I are happy with the food, resorts and that you feel like you are leaving daily life when you get onto Disney property. I am not sure how else to explain it other than people go to Vegas multiple times like it is a mecca so when I explain it this way, they seem to understand.

I love this question! I look forward to seeing everyone's responses!.

We're planning only our second family trip to Disney this dec. We went same time last year. My girls were 4 and 6.

This morning, my daughter was changing her earrings for some fancy rhinestone snowmen. Very different from her little studs. (She's recently turned the big 5 you see.)
So my other daughter says. "I'm going to wear those for the Christmas party when we go to Disney. And you can wear the Christmas trees."

It was just out of the blue and made me smile that they are looking forward to these little details. I love that.

The characters are the main reason I keep coming back. I love the ALL-STAR RESORTS and will never stay at any other place. The bus rides and night time bus rides going back to the hotel and doing it all over again the next day. It's very addicting, the sights, the sounds, the music, the fireworks, the food, and even the details!! It so much to explain on here!!! But I just love it all.

For me, I think it's the feeling of completely leaving the rest of the world behind. It's a true vacation, because it's just Disney - no worries or responsibilities intruding. (I realize intellectually that I'm imagining that, of course. But I think they do a great job of making it feel like that when I'm there.)

We for our main vacation trip usually go out West each summer -- love the western US, love seeing animals in their natural habitat, love seeing mountains, and it's great to get out of the heat. Every one in our family likes this too. We visit relatives in NJ each year (two or three nights -- a day and a 1/2 or two days and love theatre, so usually do two nights in NYC each year too around that. For our vacation budget that usually leaves just a modest amount for a cold weather get-a-way somewhere warm and we are not beach people. The mini trip to Orlando just works really well for this, but usually means just me and DS go as DH doesn't care for theme parks.. Much more expensive, but with everyone over 21 we are going to do Key West next February (probably no Orlando for 2018).

There again, thought we'd be skipping Orlando this year, but my dad just told me he has a condo for two weeks in November in Orlando and asked if we'd like come down. I just have two vacation days to allocate for that, but am doing a mini four night / three day trip w/ DS -- combining those days with a weekend. Dad sent me a check for airfare, expenses, and theme park tickets too, so how can I pass that up.

If you're not a big beach person, like a slightly tropical climate in the winter, want to keep expenses down (stay in the US). and happen to enjoy theme parks to some degree it just comes up over and over again as the logical choice lol. These days on a four night three day trip (typical for me), I just do one Disney park (usually MK, but mix it up a little), SeaWorld, and a resort day. Do note we have gone to Universal to see the Harry Potter stuff - quite nice, but not really one to repeat for us.

For the record, according to my Expedia.ca (That's Expedia.ca *Wink*) research, I could go to:

Beijing 1 week: $2500 CAD
Rome 1 week: $2400 CAD
New York 1 Week: $3200 CAD
New Orleans $2400

or Disney 6 days: 3100 CAD (Room, Flight, Spending $, and meal plan.)

well...it is the happiest place in the world!! Seriously, every time we go we experience something different. We have travelled to other places but Disney just has, for us, more to do that fits. There is so many reasons why it is hard to say in one post. BUT I am looking forward to other responses. Great thread!

It's a world within a world. I cannot think of another place where you can experience so much in such a short time. It can accommodate all types of people and all types of schedules. I agree with a previous poster, it is an escape.

Because as I as soon as I get to our Disney resort, I take a deep breath, breathing in the wonderful scents & looking at the beautiful sights and as I exhale, all the stress, worry, & unhappiness flows away from me & I smile a content, happy smile. It's wonderfully magical & happy. Like eating the most rich, delicious dessert & not ever gaining a pound, lol.
