What is ideal time for port arrival?

As some of the PP's have suggested, getting to the port very early results in a lot of time just sitting around the terminal. Yes, there are characters to have your picture taken with. And yes, there's this nice model of the ship. But after you've checked in and spent the 15 minutes that those other things will take then there isn't anything to do.

Our port arrival time was 12:30, because we booked our 1st cruise last minute. We arrived around Noon, checked-in and they were already doing open boarding. We got the kids club bands, stood in line for our cruise picture and when we got on board our luggage was already at our room waiting for us and everything. I was thinking about doing an earlier PAT, but now that I read all of these replies, I may just go with 11:30 or after...
