I've just read about this being available at LeCellier. What is it and why is it sooo expensive?

How expensive is "sooo expensive?" And for those of you that have had it, is it worth it? With free dining in August, I just might treat myself to a drink with each meal.

It is made with grapes picked after there's been frost (one or two not sure). So, the quantities are limited as the timing in picking is important. By the way, it's a very sweet wine and is usually served as a desert wine.
Hope this helps!

Icewine is the only wine I like, I hate all other wine! when I have it i cannot taste the alcohol in it(I have been told it is very high too). its good, like $5 for a little tiny taste at the food and wine festival, about $75 a bottle I beleive.

It is made of grapes harvested after the frost. I live right across the Niagara River from Canadian wine country (Niagara On The Lake region). It's a beautiful area, and a very nice vacation for those who want a break from Disney. LOL It's only a few miles from Niagara Falls as well. Plenty of Ice Wine for everyone!! YUM

There are basically 2 types of ice wine. The original, with the grapes picked at night when frozen on the vine and kept frozen or the cheaper version, where the grapes are frozen after being picked. Inniskillin, which is the type that is served at LeCellier, is the real ice wine. It is very sweet and served chilled in a smaller glass, almost like an liquere. It is similar to a muscadat. The freezing condenses the sugars in the wine and it is thus very very sweet. It is very expensive, about $50 for a small bottle in a retail store. I think that it does have a higher alcohol content, but you drink so little it does not really matter. It is very enjoyable, try it, you'll like it.

It isn't very high alchohol content. I have 3 bottles of Canadian Ice Wine in my kitchen, 1 is 10.5%, 1 is 11.5% and 1 is 12.5%, so it's pretty much the same as normal wine.
