Someone please explain. It is on the menu at Epcot in Morocco and I have heard it mentioned of as something to dip bread in. Can someone explain please? What does it taste similar too?

TIA

I'm pretty sure it is blended chick peas with different flavors & spices. Often used as a dip with dried pita chips. I like it, to me it almost tastes like refried beans.

it is very yummy! it's base is mashed up chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans). as for what it tastes like...hmmm.. it's sort of tangy. i can't really describe it!

it's very yummy and most places serve it with pita bread.

i don't think it tastes like refried beans at all. i love it with pita bread. you can make it at home to make it more healthy. just get fresh chick peas and soak it in water then mash it up and add a little olive oil and garlic.

Thanks for the quick reply. Stopped at the Tangerine Cafe our last trip to get DS the chicken strips as most of the other places serve the cold strips and the food looked really good. Was checking out the menu's on all ears and noticed it mentioned a lot.....wasn't sure what it was.

Thanks again!

I have tried it a couple of times and cant stand it....I think it smells like really really bad B.O. and tastes even worse.

Oh, I love hummus. Taste is very hard to describe. Kind of a garlic-y, tart, bean taste. Good with pita bread as well as cut up veggies. It's also good in wraps (like a turkey wrap w/goat cheese, sprouts, and hummus).

Okay, I'm getting hungry now.

It also has tahini in it--a sesame nut butter....I think that is the primary culprit in taste. I love hummus, but cannot stand tahini by itself.

Very tasty treat.

YUM! You can find it at your grocery store usually, in the ethnic food section. We have a great local place here that serves it =)

I agree that it's usually the tahini that people don't like. Sometimes, they use peanut butter instead of tahini because it's cheaper. I don't care for that, either. I'm okay with hummus made with tahini, but I leave it out when I make my own.

Shhh. Don't tell anyone, because this is very unsophisticated, but I sometimes put ketchup in the hummus I make at home.

"A sandwich and a side of hummus. It's a hummus-side!"

I LOVE HUMMUS!

I make my own with TONS of garlic, jalapenos, black pepper, and various herbs, but always lots of cilantro!

2 cloves garlic, peeled
1 15-ounce can chickpeas
Water, as needed
1/4 cup tahini
Juice of a lemon
1 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
Salt and pepper
1 scallion, thinly sliced for garnish

Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth
