What is hot for teens this Christmas?

I'm trying to stay away from the "What's Hot" thing. Instead I'm focusing on getting things that would be used/ enjoyed.

DD18 - our in-house fashionista wants a specific designer handbag, more of a tote really. I know she'd use it - she's starting college next week and she's not the backpack/ messenger bag sort-of girl. She'd use that daily as her book bag. A bit pricey but I am considering it.

DSD18 - would probably prefer money to spend as she sees fit. Not much fun wrapping money and presenting it as a gift, but that's probably the gift she'd appreciate the most.

DD12 (nearly 13 by Christmas) - Has asked for an upgrade from her iPod Nano to an iTouch. She'll borrow her big sister's every chance she gets so I know it will be used. My problem is that she's stereotypical ADHD and is so careless that she'd misplace her head if it wasn't attached to her body.

We have no idea what we should get for my 20 year old stepson - employed full time, living on his own etc. His tastes exceed our budget so it's always a challenge to find him something he'd appreciate!

how about if you wrap the money in weird and interesting ways? maybe put some money in an empty paint can, then wrap it. perhaps an old printer or camera box (fake her out a little!), blank CD case, in a picture frame. it could be fun, and i'm sure she'd get a kick out of it. i would have, at her age, especially knowing my step-mom and dad put such effort into it.

DS17 is also a high school senior this year - he has asked for a TV (22") to take to college with him next year. He will also take the PS3 with him, which will leave DS15 without a game system. So I think DS15 will be getting a PS3.

DS21 told me he'll probably ask for a new bed! He is moving into a new apartment at college and has a bigger bedroom. He's so fed up with trying to sleep on his twin bed. Interesting request....not sure what we'll do with that one yet.

I'm not sure how into the games your boys are, but you might consider getting DS15 a different system, like an Xbox or Wii. That way they could play different games on the two systems....but if you went with the PS3, they could share some of the games too.

The bed....I asked the for the same thing a few years back. My bed was in terrible shape and was from a different decade and older than me--and I was 25. My parents said no way, and I knew the big item is limited to $150 at our house. I suggested a compromise. I would buy the bed, they could give me a check towards that, and that would be my big present. The night before our family Christmas, my dad showed up at my bedroom door and gave me the check, explaining that I wasn't getting anything else big tomorrow. I KNEW this up front, so it was absolutely fine. Maybe if you're not willing to finance the entire bed, you can give him some cash towards it?

I agree! So many great new things!! I think the new iPods will be hot for teens this Xmas.

Yep, it looks like all three of mine want the new itouch, so we will replace the other ones. My son pulled it up and was watching the video of all of the things it would do and it looks pretty neat. :thumbsup2

I don't know about my DD but I sure do want one !!! Now just have to figure out what to do with my 3rd gen so DH will agree to it :)

Is there a way to trade in the old itouch toward the new itouch?

Also, can someone tell me if an itouch is a good gift for an 8 year old? My ds has been asking for one.

My kids are getting a signifigant amount in gift cards. I have trouble saving money but I have been socking away gift cards all year long. My girls will be given theirs in mini coach wallets and my son will get his in a money clip. Then they are each getting about 3 gifts to open so they have something to do on Christmas day. One dd is getting another ipod, she killed her last two. One DD is getting a kick butt digital camera and digital photo frame. They are both getting VS pink sweats. My son will get his usual video games. The one thing i was going to get my son for christmas I got him yesterday, a droid phone. He REALLY wanted it and rarely asks for anything. I told him merry christmas. And my oldest DD is getting a kindle for her december birthday. She is using mine and seems to like it so I got her one. Strangely my kids do not want an Ipad and told me not to buy one. I am a total gadget guru but have severe eyeproblems so I keep buying this or that thinking maybe this I will be able to see and it never works out. It's frustrating to me. I am surprised my kids didn't want it though? My oldest dd wants a macbook pro and I have a seperate savings account set up for that since they are so pricey.

DH and I watched the whole video last night of all the new Apple products. Amazing! All the new iPods look so awesome. I think the $49 shuffles are going to be a huge hit this Xmas season. We have the latest iPod touch so DH so graciously said I can have that so he can get the new one!:rotfl: Our kids are 12 and 7 and both have the Nanos. I am thinking my older one will get the new iPod touch and my DS will get the new Nano. I am just so excited for the all the cool new updates to the iPad! It is my favorite thing and was bought for my kids, but I took it over!:thumbsup2

our DS (16) is hoping a ping pong table finds its way into our basement...has not really specified for Christmas, but when the weather turns around here, kids look for a way to blow off steam. They are into poker too, so anything with that may happen here. I am sure DS would LOVE the basement to be finished off professionally complete with 52" HD TV, but thats' not gonna happen. So, I go with their interests:
Gas cards
movie cards
cash
fast food cards
paintball
usually something to do with sports gets added too..bur uber tight budget this year.
DD (20) is attneding her dream college so that si the gift that keeps on giving...she loves Subway /Walmart cards..sells stuff on Etsy so likes supplies for that and again CASH!
They were each given a money tree last year with $50 on it in $5's and singles...gift was a hit for sure.

I don't know, my 9yo keeps asking for one because DH and 14yo DD both have one and he does play some games on it, but I'm just not sure that there's enough for him to do on it to really make it worth the expense, he's not that into music and I think he would get more out of his nintendo ds (I'm debating upgrading him to a dsi, though). Those are my thoughts on it.

My 14 and 13yo's are getting netbooks this year and a few accessories for it and that's it. I'll probably put itunes and McDonald's GC's in their stockings. My 11yo is getting a refurbished itouch. When my oldest got her itouch she passed her nano down to him and he uses it all the time and has been responsible with it so I think he's ready.

Since you're buying one -
If you’re a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac with Apple education pricing from May 25 through September 7, 2010, you can get a free 8GB iPod touch.* No wonder they call these the best years of your life.

I did see that but I called Apple store yesterday and it is the old Itouch. :confused3

I have no idea.

I have two boys, 7 and 17. They both are wanting a treadmill, so they'll probably get that together (the 17 year old will most likely live at home at least his first couple years in college). Other than that, I don't know. Maybe gift cards (Game Stop, BP, itunes, etc)? Probably some clothes. He's really good at telling us about two days before Christmas what he REALLY wants.

DD just asked for a new set of golf clubs, I wonder how much that will be?

Well, that figures, doesn't it? I might still do it and ebay it and or trade up later.
Does anyone think there will be a good discount on 3rd generation touches after the new ones are released?

Yes i was going to say also the Pandora bracelet, charms are expensive, so for my Granddaughter's 16th B'day the 23rd of Sept, this is what i 'm giving her, the bracelet with 4 charms, that way at christmas we can add more charms.

Pandora Bracelets love that idea. I am going to check e-bay
Pink, order 2 shirts today and lip gloss. 19.99 each and 2.99 each

I love this thread. Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming and post the bargins you get. :grouphug:

Hey, I saw your post and thought of my gift last year. Since I am in college I asked for money too. My parents ended up giving me a money tree:) It was really cute and alot of fun to take the bills off and count to see how much there was. My mom had bought a pot for my palm tree I bought, spray painted it black and used the cricut to put my initial and some cute dots on it. Just an idea:goodvibes

Very cute idea. I am not crafty but it doesn't sound difficult. Maybe this is an idea also for the poster above with the step children who are hard to buy for at Christmas.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think my DSD would actually get a kick out of the money tree idea, especially since we've spent the last umpteen years saying to them, "Are you crazy? You think money grows on trees???" (or words to that effect!)

Pandora Bracelets???? I looked on e-bay and there are beads and black rope bracelets are the real ones?
