I was looking at Best Buy yesterday and they had a lot of photo software. Most were in the $100 range. Very reasonable for me.

After getting about half way through the 404 pages of pics on the dis pic of the day thread I have seen some pics where they are mainly B+W but one thing will be in color. I know I want that feature but what other features do I want and don't know it yet?

Any suggestions on what software to get?

Thanks a lot

Paint SHop Pro X

i'm trying to decide that also and so far i have gotten free trials for adobe photo shop and corel paint shop by going to their websites...photoshop was beyond my meger brain and paint shop seems easier but i am going to have to go to the tutorials to get it right...not sure if it is on their website but i think the paint shop is on sale for $54 ($40 off) right now( maybe if you have the trial version, i got an email with the cheaper price in it)

Photoshop is the "standard" but it is expensive, the learning curve is steep and most people aren't likely to use many of the features. Adobe Elements is good, reasonably priced, and if you ever want to upgrade it's a clear path to Photoshop.

Other imaging programs are good too but I don't know of any others that offer compatibility with PS.

I just picked up Paint Shop Pro X yesterday from Circuit City for 55.99-30 rebate=25.99 (I had to have them price match the Best Buy next door to get the price).

So far so good... seems powerful enough for me and very user friendly, but I have just started, so we'll see.

PAint Shop Pro X will pretty much do everything photoshop will do at a fraction of the cost, and the learning curve is a lot easier,

most photoshop plugins will work with paint shop pro
