What is good airfare out of Indianapolis?

Ok, I am having a hard time deciding between driving and flying for our June trip to Disney. On this trip it will be me, my DD6 and my mom. To drive it is about a 16 hour drive. We have driven it before, but the other times my husband has been with us. I'm just not sure about driving that far without my husband.
I have looked into flying, but not sure what would be a good deal out of Indy. Dates for when we're going come out next Monday for Southwest (or so the website says), so what type of pricing should I book if I see it? I would like to get tickets for $300 or less roundtrip. Would that be a good deal? It has been a long time since I've flown and I have no idea what good airfare deals are these days. Any information anybody can give is greatly appreciated!

The best for the last 6 months or so has been $220 for round trip non-stop.

If you see a fare you're comfortable paying (less than $300), book it. Since you're flying SW, if the fare drops, you can get a credit for the difference. Of course, you have to use that credit one year from the date you initially booked the flights, and only the people whose names are attached to the seat can use it (I think). However, if you can/will book another flight between now and then, it is worth it to grab.

Seems like $300 +/- $30 has been the going rate for round-trip from IND, particularly if you are looking for direct. It also seems like the prices are lowest within about 2 weeks of first being published. Although, we did get about a $50/ticket refund (credit) on our upcoming flight with Airtran when the price dropped.

We always look at Airtran and SW. Sometime one has better times than the other for our travel plans. On our upcoming trip, we are using Airtran on the way down and SW on the way back. We generally prefer SW if the times are good, since they don't have baggage fees.

AirTran is usually cheaper than SW. We fly out of Indy with AirTran and love it.

We flew Southwest in February for $65 each way. With taxes and such, it was about $450 for the 3 of us to fly round trip, with up to 2 checked bags each. We flew out the Wed or Thurs before the Superbowl (because everyone in Indianapolis uses that as a point of reference in time now) and came back the Sat after.

In 2010, we flew Air Tran for about $89 each way, making it about $570 for all of us with taxes and such. And we had to pay to check bags. Those dates were Jan 8-15. Just for reference.

Both Air Tran and Southwest have a "TODAY ONLY" sale going today. Check prices for your dates. And keep checking. Even if you book Southwest, and the fare drops, you can call when that fare is lower and they will issue you a credit for the difference.

We're looking at flights for a long weekend trip in April. SW used to have daily nonstop/direct flights from IND to MCO. Now that they've purchased AirTran, it looks like they are consolidating routes, and reduced the nonstop/direct flights for our time frame to only Saturday to Saturday flights. Airtran has new nonstop/directs (at a higher price) that appear to be replacing some of the Southwest flights.

With that in mind, watch both airlines for the best schedule for your trip.
