What is going on the last week of August?

I'm trying to book a last minute trip for Labor Day weekend... When I try to book from August 29th through labor day, next to nothing is available (deluxe and moderate)... however, when I change the date to August 30, suddenly almost all the hotels open up. Is something going on down there that is wrapping up on or just before the 29th?

Free dining starts 8/26. That might explain some of the crowd but the OP said that the 30th stuff opens up. That would only be 3 nights of the free dining. But for us coming in on the 25 and leaving the 1st it sounds like the end of the vacation will be less crowded than the beginning.

right, everything seems to open up on the 30th. I wasn't sure if a deal was ending that day or there was a philatelist convention, or something, wrapping up
