Next to the Osprey Golf course is a new project? What is it? Thanks - it will settle a debate.

It's the Four Seasons Hotel & Resort, will also have time shares and residential homes.

Here's the annoucement which was in the Orlando Sentinel, August 2008:

Walt Disney World Co. has sold 298 acres of land to Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for the 445-room Four Seasons hotel and a golf course that will anchor Disney’s new luxury expansion in the Northeast corner of its property.

The company also released a rendering for the hotel, which was designed by WATG (Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo).

The resort expansion, announced last year, will include the Four Seasons hotel, fractional ownership vacation homes, custom single- and multi-family vacation homes, and an 18-hole golf course.

“This is an important milestone for a project that will enable our company and our community to further tap into the luxury travel market,” said Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort, in a written statement. “Working together for the first time, Walt Disney World Resort and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts will create a world-class family resort destination that offers the exceptional service and amenities and one-of-a-kind guest experiences that are the hallmark of both our brands.”

Site preparation began earlier this year, and construction is expected to being next year. The hotel is slated to open by 2012.

I played golf at Osprey Ridge this week. The Four Seasons project has been under way for quite some time, however all that is there currently is a nicely appointed enterance, and a giant empty field. Perhaps things are on track, but from the looks of things to me on the course, this thing is not moving anywhere fast....

Yes, I heard this from a bus driver!! He said that Disney insisted that the builders work on the entrance first because they didn't want the thing to look like a construction site for 3-4 years. The large and elaborate entrance hides most of it.

It's been a long time since Disney gave a crap about what things look like.
One example is the unfinished Pop Century.
