I just today convinced my DH to give me one day of our 8 day vacation at Sea World .. I keep reading about how great this dinner is but not what the experience is. Can someone enlighten me?

It is truly wonderful and well worth the money!
Your server first tells you where you are sitting in the "arena", which by the looks of things there is not a bad seat in the place! Then they explain about the buffet that is very good, they have cute shamu shaped chocolate covered cookies! Yum! While you eat Shamu is swimming around the arena popping up every once and a while, I truly think that he must know when people are around and pops up to see everyone. There is a trainer that will introduce "Shamu" and then towards the end of the dinner they explain more about the whale that is there and what behaviors they have learned while being at Seaworld. The "show" is about 15-20 minutes and is GREAT!!! Get your cameras ready for those close encounters! You will not get splashed but water may get onto the floor and they warn you to keep belongings in a chair because of this.
It was a highlight of our trip and we will certainly be going again next time! You will not be dissapointed if you enjoy "Shamu"!
Thank you so much, just made the reservation for our mid-week trip. Even DH thinks its a great idea and will be fun. Well one day's plans completed, only 6 more to figure out LOL
I have a 5 year old and a ten year old who both LOVED Dine with Shamu! The 10 year old is a BIG Shamu fan and thought the best part was after the dinner when you could talk to the trainers one-on-one. I would gladly do it again! Dinner for four-$100,the kids sitting silent with their mouths open in udder amazement for an hour-PRICELESS! Do watch out for splashes-the water is freezing-found that out the hard way!
Is this a lunch or a dinner? Can anyone give appx. times?? I am a bit of a planner and just would like to know those things ahead of time for our itinerary!
My wife and I did this last year. I believe the times were about 60 - 90 minutes after the afternoon Shamu show. It was well worth the money. We made reservations off of the internet and told them that we would be celebrating our anniversary, in return we received a table right on the water.
We had an early seating and I want to say that it was at 5ish. It was a short show and the food was OK, good for a buffet. The real treat is the fact that you are able to get some up close quiet time with the Whale. Our 3 year old was thrilled and my 7 year old barely ate because she was too busy watching Shamu!
I would definately reccomend this to anyone with kids.
We just did the late seating last week and it was fun but I expected more in terms of the "show". It's expensive for a buffet (over $130 for 4 with AAA discount) and the show time is short. However, my family liked it - food was good and the area they serve it in is nice - right next the Shamu Stadium on the water. I have two teen daughters and they love Sea World so this was a nice end to the day.
