What is D23?

I'm really not sure where to post this since I don't know what it is so, here goes!

What is D23? I hear it talked about in different locations and in different posts but I am not sure what it is.

Can anyone explain it? I understand Canadians can now sign up for it...but what would I be signing up for?

D23 is Disneys Fan Club for grown ups, if you like. I am not an expert but I know that there are a couple of different levels of membership available and each one comes with different perks and cost. I am a Gold member I think it is, the top level. For my yearly membership subscription I get a quarterly D23 publication which is a beautifully presented large full colour glossy magazine and then I have the ability to attend D23 special events etc. As I live in Australia I don't get to take advantage of the extra perks but I love getting my magazine four times a year and devour it from front to back, it gives me my little bit of Disney Magic between my trips. Others will probably be able to give you a better list of what is included or just google D23 and have a look at their website.

Rest assured it is not spam and they have just redeveloped the site which I have to say is a great improvement, I really like the new layout it is much easier to navigate around. You can join up to the website for free but if you do become a subscriber you get access to a few more things. It is a good site, it has behind the scenes interviews with Imagineers and they post things from the Disney archives which are also very interesting. Definitely worth a look.

D23 is a profit center for The Walt Disney Company which they claim is a fan club. It is fully controlled and operated by Disney employees.

If you want a true Disney fan club, contact www.disneyanafanclub.org (formerly know as the National Fantasy Fan Club) and has been in existence for close to 30 years. There are chapters of the club in four countries, primarily the US. It is a not-for-profit club and operated by and for the benefit of its members.
