What is cool or interesting about your neighborhood?

Just curious, what is interesting about the neighborhood where you live? Something that is different from every other neighborhood in America.

My neighborhood: if I want to take a cruise to the Caribbean, I can walk to a cruiseship with my suitcase a few blocks down from my house and hop aboard.

Well, my neighborhood has a group of houses that were built to be "environmentally friendly" in terms of energy usage. There are about 5-8 of us who have geothermal loops. Ughhhhh.....what I wouldn't give for a "normal" AC/Heat system. The trend didn't last long as all the newer houses around here are not geothermals.

My city is pretty cool as it is one of the few spared on Sherman's March to the Sea. We have some incredibly beautiful pre Civil War homes here. And...Alan Jackson calls us his hometown. ;) (Well, that pretty much gave away my location, didn't it? :rotfl:)

Although I live in the suburbs, I can get anywhere in the world without having to get into a car. Although I love having it, and rarely take public transportation, I could survive without it.

We have a statue of Dick Tracy as the as Dick Locher lives here

basically the Riverwalk is the focal point of town, 911 memorial with beam form one of the towers is there as well. Doesn't make it that much different from other towns, but don't know if too many 9ft Dick Tracy statues :)

would love to be able to walk to my cruise tho, how awesome is that! My DS would love seeing ships all the time.

we can see the magic kingdoms fireworks:cool1:

You never know what you are going to find in your yard in the Am. Could be quad tracks, could be a horse, maybe a cow. Deer, bear, fox, coyote and other woodland creatures can also be found.

there are only 2 National Parks for the War of 1812 and the 2nd one is about half a mile from our home. Also, I was the first Habitat for Humanity home on our street an now there are 9.

not in my neighborhood (which is only a few streets!!) but the Unconditional Surrender kiss statue is in our town.

We live in the country and there is an animal sanctuary about two blocks from me. They have zebras, camels, miniature donkeys, spider monkeys, and a lot of large fowl. Except for the monkeys, all of the animals can come up to the fence and eat from your hands.

The Prime Minister of my country (Canada) was born and raised in my neighbourhood.

A local famer has one of his veggie/fruit markets right in my neighborhood, I can walk there in nice weather it's so close. The prices are about the same as the grocery store but the quality is a heck of a lot better! It's off the beaten path so only the real locals know it's there (I have NO idea how/why they picked this location, it's not even on a major street!).

We have this barn in my neighborhood...

It was built in 1919 on its 1888 foundation. It's really nice in the summer, it becomes a "farmers' market" of sorts, with fruits and veggies and crafts. It's nice to walk to on a Saturday afternoon.

It's "different" because my neighborhood/subdivision is very CITY, and this is a tiny bit of country right in the city!

Our General Store is the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States.

Do they have penny candies in a jar on the counter?

It is such a quaint store! I just love going there. They do have lots of jar candies as well as homemade candies. I can't vouch for the penny BUT because of this thread I am taking the kids today! I'll let you know.
