What is cool or interesting about your neighborhood?

Just curious, what is interesting about the neighborhood where you live? Something that is different from every other neighborhood in America.

My neighborhood: if I want to take a cruise to the Caribbean, I can walk to a cruiseship with my suitcase a few blocks down from my house and hop aboard.

Unfortunately, the only thing different about my neighborhood is that I live here...not a very exciting fact...But..I like it here.

Kevin James (King of Queens) grew up in my town. He went to my junior high and the high school I go to now.

There is nothing special about my neighborhood but I love it because the lots are so big and it is wooded so we see deer and lots of nature, and it feels like we live far out, but we are very close to town. Also, we don't have neighbors on top of us. I LOVE that!

My hometown is very historic. During the Revolutionary war, George Washington frequented a local tavern, a battle during the War of 1812 was fought here, during the Civil war, the rail line was destroyed so to cross the river from my town the Union Army used ferries to transport troops and weapons, we are the northern most terminal of the MARC Penn Line commuter rail service, we are the home to the largest linwood tree in Maryland, we are also home to a VA hospital.

Most of this I knew before but I googled and other stuff came up.

The coolest thing about my neighborhood is that I can lie in my bed and see the ocean. When the tall ships came to Boston we saw them pass by.

We are in the flight path for the air force base so unfortunately on 9/11 we saw the fighter jets flying to Boston. We also see the Coast Guard helicopters when someone is lost at sea.

I live about a mile from the back of the Magic Kingdom. I can watch Wishes every night, if I want. I can be on Disney property in five minutes and Downtown Disney in ten minutes.

I can be on an east coast beach or a gulf coast beach in an hour.

I have incredible wildlife walking around my neighborhood every day. I see beautiful flowers blooming in the dead of winter.

I love my neighborhood.

They film the "country" scenes for several soap operas here so we will often run into soap stars at the diner.

And we live in hot air balloon land- so we get hot air balloons landing nearby this time of year.

There are lots of historical signs in our area involving railways, amusement parks and this little beauty.......

They just put up a sign around the corner about Liver Eating Johnson being from our "area"
One story about him

In 1847, his Native American wife was killed by Crow Indians, which prompted Johnson to embark on a 20-year vendetta against the tribe. The legend says that he would cut out and eat the liver of each man killed. This was an insult to Crow being that the Crow Indians used to eat the raw livers from their game because they believed it gave them the vitality of the animal that they ate. In any case, he eventually became known as "Liver-Eating Johnson".

Our General Store is the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States.

I'm pretty sure I know where that is... I've probably passed it driving tons of times.

Oh, I almost forgot- parts of From Within was filmed here. (movie with Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's oldest daughter.)

My neighborhood is a pretty typical large city suburb. The thing I love about it is our very tight-knit and active neighborhbood association. During the summer, we have bi-weekly "Driveway Happy Hours." Everyone gathers in someone's front yard and we meet new people, visit, eat and drink. At Christmastime, we had a horse-drawn sleigh ride that went up and down our streets, again sponsored by the neighborhood association. At Halloween, we had a carnival for the kids. Even though we live in a city of over 1 million people, we have our own little community where everyone knows each other. We even have a Yahoo group where we discuss what's going on (does anyone know why the police helicoptors are circling the neighborhood?) or get referrals (does anyone know a good plumber?). I hardly ever go to the grocery store or library without seeing someone I know!

We live about 5 blocks away from Wrigley Field.... Family and friends think that's really neat, I use to think so too.... Now I find it to be a pain!

I would love to see the ocean from my bedroom!:lovestruc Love reading the different posts!

I'm pretty sure I know where that is... I've probably passed it driving tons of times.

I looked and am surprised there isnt a website. Stop next time, its a great little store! :)

We live a half mile from an Amish church and we regularly see Amish buggies pass our house. I love driving by the church on Sunday mornings seeing all the horse and buggies! I've lived here quite some time and I still get excited when I see a buggie! We also were the birth place of the Fleetwood body style.

New Orleans
On the streetcar line and the parade route. Plus about a zillion other cool things.

Our General Store is the oldest continuously operating general store in the United States.

I know where you live:love: I have never been to the store? How is it. I did see a ittle article about it in the paper once. My kids pediatrician lives in your town.

My neighborhood isn't a neighborhood. It's a street. And it goes only between 2 streets. That's all of my neighborhood. My street doesn't continue on anywhere else either.

I'm a block from a major US highway.

Well in my actual neighborhood lately our claims to fame are:
1. Having some guy bury 2 dead bodies in the sump
2. Having some mafia guy around, but I think he might have sold the house
3. Having the house 2 blocks away get drug raided complete with helicopters, swat team etc. That resulted in one of the ds being removed from the house. Poor kid was sleeping on the floor whle adult brothers were growing pot in his room

(Did I mention I hate where I live)

On a historic note: I think George Washington visited our town.
